I’m sure everyone knows about Shihlin and their famous XXL Crispy Chicken, but they have much more than just that. Introducing the new and revamped Shihlin Taiwan Street Food in NEX, opening 3 Oct 2025!

Shihlin revamp - Shihlin stall

Astute customers may notice the subtle name change from street snacks to street food. It’s all part of the brand’s effort to revamp and modernise itself, including a total redesign of the shop. Gone are the bright red walls and dated look, and in comes a new red and white colour scheme with a furry friend!

Making their arrival with this revamp are 2 new rice bowl dishes. They are the Braised Chicken Rice Bowl (S$7.50) and Chiayi Scallion Chicken Rice Bowl (S$7.50)

Shihlhin revamp - braised chicken rice bowl

The Braised Chicken Rice Bowl is Shihlin’s take on the classic lu rou fan, but made with braised chicken instead of pork. The taste reminds me of chicken bits, but with the softness of lu rou fan pork. So don’t worry, the change in protein doesn’t compromise the dish at all.

Shihlin revamp - chia yi scallion chicken rice bowl

The iconic Chiayi Turkey Rice from Chiayi, Taiwan, inspires Shihlin’s Chiayi Scallion Chicken Rice Bowl. They substitute the turkey for shredded chicken while dousing it in scallion sauce.

Shihlin revamp - hot & sour soup, oyster mushrooms, and smashed cucumbers

You can pair the rice bowls with their vegetarian-friendly appetisers like their Smashed Cucumbers (S$2), Oyster Mushrooms (S$2.50), and Hot & Sour Soup (S$3.80). What really surprised me was how the Hot & Sour Soup had hints of sweet, spicy, and sour, all in one spoon.

You can get the Oyster Mushrooms and Smashed Cucumbers at a discounted price of S$1.80 and S$1.50, respectively, when you purchase them with either rice bowl.

Shihlin revamp - miao miao box

Remember the furry friend I mentioned earlier? That’s right, Shihlin is going all-in with the mascot plush hype with Miao Miao, a black cat who apparently knows what good chicken tastes like.

The inspiration for the mascot comes from Shihlin’s menu being informed by Taiwan’s night market street snacks. Just like the black sky of the night, the black cat rises. These little furballs will be sold in blind boxes at S$15.90 per box.

From 4 Oct 2025 onwards, you can also get a Miao Miao blind box for just S$7.90 with every S$10 spent, while stocks last, of course.

Shihlin revamp - miao miao variations

Miao Miao comes in 3 cat-tastic variations: Crispy Miao Miao, Slurpy Miao Miao, and QQ Miao Miao. Each portrays the titular cat holding snacks and dishes from Shihlin.

When I opened my blind box, I managed to get the Crispy Miao Miao plush, which was the one I wanted. Lucky me!
