Within a 12-month period, Sinaran Cahaya accumulated 16 demerit points, resulting in the suspension of its license through the Points Demerit System. Additionally, the eatery received a fine of S$1,700 for 3 violations associated with the 16 demerit points.

The 3 distinct offences committed were preparing food outside of licensed premises (4 demerit points), selling food containing a foreign substance (6 demerit points), and failing to register an assistant (6 demerit points).

According to The Straits Times, the SFA reported that the foreign object found in the food was a curry puff containing a plaster, posing both a hazard and unhygienic conditions.

“A licensee accumulating 12 or more demerit points within a 12-month period may face a suspension of either 2 or 4 weeks or cancellation,” stated the SFA.

The SFA emphasised its serious stance on these offences, reminding food operators to adhere to good food and personal hygiene practices and engage only registered food handlers. The statement concluded by highlighting SFA’s commitment to taking firm action against any violations of the Environmental Public Health Act.

In light of these developments, the SFA encourages individuals encountering instances of poor food safety practices to avoid patronising such outlets. Instead, they are urged to provide feedback through the online feedback form or contact the SFA Contact Centre at +65 6805 2871.
