If you’re Malaysian, then you’d know the joy of a freshly-made roti telur at a local mamak— prepared with a cracked or lightly beaten egg that is encased inside the flaky roti dough. However, a Reddit post recently caught the attention of netizens for its rather interesting looking version of roti telur.
A customer explained that they ordered a roti prata with a side of curry at a Singaporean restaurant in the United States and decided to add an egg after learning the option was available. The customer then received quite the shock when the roti came with a sunny-side-up egg, right in the middle of the prata. “Thought I was getting roti telur,” the customer lamented.
But that wasn’t the only surprising thing on the plate— the curry served for dipping looked equally strange. The customer described the curry as tasting “sweet” and confirmed that it was very different from the curry one can get back in Singapore. According to the original poster, the Roti Prata with Curry cost 6USD (RM30) and the Egg add-on set them back 2USD (RM10).
However, the customer claimed that while some of their dishes lacked the sort of quality one experiences in Singaporean establishments, others were pretty decent, such as their bak kut teh.
