1. Crab Bro Noodle House (L2-01)

Crab Bro Noodle House - Storefront

Among the newest culinary gems in Johor Bahru, Crab Bro Noodle House stands in a league of its own as Malaysia’s first and only dedicated Shanghai crab roe noodle house. The restaurant revolves around a single prized ingredient: crab roe, long celebrated in Chinese gastronomy for its silken texture, natural sweetness, and profound umami.

Crab Bro Noodle House - Food

Inspired by the culinary heritage of Shanghai and Jiangsu, Crab Bro Noodle House takes a focused, uncompromising approach to authenticity.

Hand-pulled noodles, premium produce, and signature ingredients imported directly from Shanghai and Jiangsu come together to recreate the flavours of a traditional Shanghai noodle house, offering a dining experience that’s still remarkably uncommon in Malaysia.

Crab Bro Noodle House - Crab roe noodles

The restaurant’s signature, Signature Crab Roe Noodles (RM98), is a masterclass in understated luxury. Springy hand-pulled noodles are generously coated in a velvety crab roe sauce, creating a dish that’s rich yet beautifully balanced.

Each mouthful unfolds with layers of sweet seafood notes and lingering umami, offering a taste that’s both comforting and undeniably indulgent.

Crab Bro Noodle House - Hairy crab rice pot

Those in search of something even more decadent can opt for Emperor Hairy Crab Rice Pot (RM198) — layered with crab roe, crab paste, crab meat, and succulent crab legs over fragrant rice for a feast that celebrates every precious element of the crab.

Crab Bro Noodle House - Supreme Tu Huang You

Adding to the must-try lineup, Supreme Tu Huang You Rice (RM68) offers a purer expression of the ingredient, allowing the aromatic crab roe to shine with minimal distractions.

Time your visit during Hairy Crab and June Yellow Crab season, and you’ll be rewarded with fresh Yangcheng Lake hairy crabs, air-flown weekly from China.

Available only for a short window each year, this sought-after seasonal delicacy completes an experience that goes beyond a satisfying meal, offering a rare glimpse into one of Shanghai’s most treasured culinary traditions. Its one-of-a-kind sweeter taste is something you won’t want to miss.

Perfect for all kinds of patrons — families, foodies, tourists, young folks and business diners, Crab Bro Noodle House is definitely a must-try the next time you visit SKS City Mall.

2. Canton Boy (L2-02)

Canton Boy - Storefront

Dim sum lovers will want to make a beeline for Canton Boy, a halal-certified dim sum specialist that marries time-honoured Cantonese craftsmanship with the vibrant flavours of Malaysia

This outlet also happens to be the brand’s first outlet in Johor Bahru, making it an exciting addition for local dim sum fans.

Canton Boy - Anak Malaysia

What caught our attention first during our visit was their Anak Malaysia Dim Sum series, which enhances familiar local flavours with a Cantonese dim sum twist. Muar Otak-Otak Siu Mai (RM12.80) was surprisingly well-balanced, with the fragrant spice of Johor’s famous otak-otak complementing the juicy siu mai instead of overpowering it.

Another standout was Beef Rendang Spring Roll (RM12.80), where rich, slow-cooked rendang was wrapped in a crispy shell that added a satisfying crunch to every bite.

Canton Boy - Dimsum

No dim sum feast is complete without a few classics, so we also had Shang Hai Xiao Long Bao (RM12.80) and Crystal Har Gow (RM12.80). First up, the xiao long bao delivered exactly what we were hoping for, with a burst of savoury broth tucked inside delicate wrappers. As for the har gow, each dumpling came packed with plump, sweet prawns wrapped in a pleasantly chewy skin.

Canton Boy - Ruby rice roll

Stealing the show for us, though, was their Crispy Prawn Ruby Rice Roll (RM16.80). Crunchy prawns hidden beneath silky chee cheong fun created an irresistible contrast in textures that kept us going back for another bite.

Canton Boy - Egg tarts & coffee

To round off the meal, we went for the Signature Portuguese Egg Tart (RM5), which had buttery, flaky pastry and a beautifully caramelised custard filling. Sugar Coated Egg Puffs (RM13.80) made another great dessert — light, airy and dangerously easy to keep reaching for. Paired with a cup of Hainan Kopi, everything came together for the most perfectly comforting meal.

What we appreciated most was how Canton Boy doesn’t simply stick to tradition. Blending Malaysian flavours with classic Cantonese techniques gives its dim sum a unique identity without losing what makes these dishes so timeless in the first place. For anyone exploring SKS City Mall, this is easily one of the spots we’d recommend checking out.

Some recipes are worth preserving simply because they taste like home. At Ah Ma TeoChew Kuih, that sentiment stretches back more than a century, with family roots tracing to Kuala Sangga and the beloved Lam Huk Kopitiam of the 1940s. Four generations later, those traditional Teochew recipes continue to make their way onto the table, prepared with natural ingredients and without preservatives.

The name says it all: Teochew kuih is the star here, with an assortment of handmade bites that showcase the cuisine’s delicate textures and understated flavours. Expect classics such as Chives Kuih, Turnip Kuih, Teochew Yam Kuih, Thousand-Layer Kuih, Pulut Tai Tai, and Ang Ku Kuih in bean paste, peanut, or coconut fillings. For something particularly nostalgic, the 4th Generation Fried Red Bean Paste Kuih offers a crisp exterior wrapped around a sweet, earthy centre.

The dessert selection is just as tempting. The Teochew Oh Ni (RM18.90) is a must-try, featuring smooth yam paste that’s gently sweet and luxuriously creamy. Meanwhile, Bubur Cha Cha (RM8.90) brings together colourful chewy morsels in fragrant coconut milk, while the Ginkgo Barley With Beancurd (RM6.50) makes for a lighter, soothing finish.

There’s also proper Teochew fare if you’re stopping by hungry, including Ah Ma Teochew Porridge (RM11.90) with 3 side dishes of your choice and Teochew Fish Porridge (RM14.90). Pair your meal with an Ah Ma Signature Milk Tea (RM5.90) or Signature Coffee With Oh Ni (RM9.90) for a sweet sip of nostalgia.

For a taste of Northern Chinese cuisine in the heart of JB, Shan Dong Lou brings the robust flavours of Shandong, or Lu cuisine, to SKS City Mall. The regional cooking is known for its savoury profile, wheat-based staples and deft techniques such as quick-frying and braising, with plenty of seafood and handmade specialities in the mix.

One of the restaurant’s biggest draws is its Beijing Roasted Duck, with a half duck priced at around RM59.90. Roasted until the skin turns crisp while the meat stays tender, it makes for a satisfying centrepiece when dining with a group.

Dumplings are another essential here. The Xiao Long Bao arrives steamed and delicate, with a savoury burst of soup tucked inside each parcel, while the Handmade Dumplings showcase the hearty, doughy texture characteristic of northern Chinese cooking.

There’s plenty beyond dumplings too. The Mapo Tofu brings silky tofu and a fiery Sichuan-style sauce to the table, while Sichuan Boiled Fish offers tender fish immersed in a deeply spiced broth. The Sweet And Sour Squirrel Fish balances crisp fried fish with a tangy-sweet sauce, while Shrimp Paste Long Beans add a savoury crunch to the spread.
