GE2020 is now done and dusted, but the battle of the year—-with COVID-19—is far from over.

One of the more iconic moments of the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period has to be the times when our Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong took to the podium to address the nation. What most of us took away from those screenings was, in fact, the presence of his famous blue teacup.

I’m sure many of us have wished we could own something so beautifully crafted, and hence, local crafts company, Supermama Store, has taken on the task of attempting to re-create his sought-after teacup.

Humorously named Magic, The Legendary Language-Changing Cup (S$38), this fragile creation was immortalised with the assistance of Hype & Stuff writer, Vera Leng, who had documented just how many times this cup appeared alongside PM Lee during his addresses.

The cup is hand-painted in Japan and features the motif of the Tembusu flower and leaves. The Tembusu, recognised as one of Singapore’s heritage trees, is also known for its resilience, dynamism, purpose, and usefulness, which, I’m sure you’ll agree, is apt for the current times.

According to Supermama Store’s site, the cup’s purpose to inject a dose of joy:

‘In the midst of uncertain times, a little blue cup arise and gave the nation a gentle dose of humour’.

I reckon it would also make a great gift for fans of PM Lee, avid tea drinkers, and those who wish to collect memorabilia which signify an important time in Singapore’s history.

While the teacup is currently out of stock, they are still accepting pre-orders, with the next batch due to be released sometime in August 2020. So, be sure to place your order early in order to catch the next wave!

Date & Time: Magic, The Legendary Language-Changing Cup is available at Supermama Store
