In our modern age saturated with all kinds of dining spaces, what truly sets one apart from the rest? Half-naked waiters clad in lingerie of course! On 25 and 26 Aug, the (in)famous “Thai hunks” of Bangkok will be serving exclusively at Mr Mookata in Bugis, from 3pm to 10pm.

In the meantime, a poll to determine the outfit of choice – pyjamas, crop tops, skirts, or ‘others’ – for the “Thai hunks” is being held on Mr Mookata’s Facebook page.

Those hoping for the same level of risque showmanship characteristic of their Bangkok restaurant, Sathanee Mee Hoi will have to temper expectations as Mr Mookata patrons include families with children.

This audacious concept first took off in 2016 when Veerasak Maesa wanted to open his own restaurant. To give it a unique touch, he employed a team of wait staff that could bare the weight of the restaurant by dressing in skimpy over-the-top costumes and performing raunchy dances, all while donning goofy expressions for the cameras.

Regardless of your opinion on this controversial marketing ploy, it’s undeniable that the restaurant has become a viral sensation.

In March this year, the “Thai hunks” had to cancel a performance in Malaysia after they were accused of promoting “a culture of hedonism, obscenity and free sex”. Thankfully, they were given the green light after a wardrobe change to plain white t-shirts and pants.

Mr Mookata will be offering their buffet at only  S$29.90 per pax with dining limited to 90 mins over the 2 days. No bookings will be accepted, so be prepared to join the queue.
