We all love a good comeback story and just like the indomitable Cher, The Fabulous Baker Boy is about to make a comeback with a multi-concept F&B brand at the creative enclave of Aliwal Arts Centre in January 2021.
After the initial closure from the COVID-19 situation, The Fabulous Baker Boy is back and bigger than ever with his signature range of Diva and Divo cakes which are named after famous celebrity. After all, we all could do with a piece of George Clooney.
This new space at Aliwal Arts Centre boasts a 70-seater space with a full-service bakery, patisserie, cafe and restaurant. Owner, head baker and theatre actor, Juwanda Hassim, hopes that this new location can bring together his love for food and theatre all under one roof. It’s not just sweets at a new space, Juwanda also aims to empower and give back to the community by having his core team of bakers and cooks made up of women and actively employing his floor staff from all walks of life.
With an expanded menu of artisanal baked goods that include sourdough bread, croissants, danishes and cookies, I am beside myself with all the choices. Not only will there be an all-day brunch and lunch menu that includes some new items such as Pumpkin and Ricotta Ravioli with burnt butter and sage, Sourdough Pizzas and Hasselback Potatoes with a saucy local twist will replace regular french fries.
That’s not all, you can’t have all these fabulous cakes without coffee. They will be getting their coffee from homegrown coffee roasters Highlander. It’s a local cafe through and through, and you know what we absolutely stan. Plus, a little birdie told me that the interior of The Fabulous Baker Boy’s place will feature Nordic elements with clean, minimal accents. That only means it’s going to be #aesthetic and the millennial in me is screaming.
