We seem to have no shortage of amazing pastry shops sprouting all over the island, and now, we’re so excited to hear yet another join the list of irresistibly flaky croissants that are to-die-for. Introducing The French American Bakery at Haji Lane—a quaint shop that just opened on 7 August 2021. Although we didn’t hear about it till this past weekend, apparently, there have been queues patiently lining Haji Lane in anticipation of getting their hands on a freshly baked pastry or two.
The halal bakery business is run by a duo—Aishah, the Head Baker, and her husband. Chef Aishah boasts 15 years of culinary experience as a pastry chef, so you know these baked treats are most likely worth the wait. Just like its moniker, their bakes include a range of classic French and American favourites, many of which we’re very well-acquainted with.
Some notable bakes to buy are their torched-to-order Crème Brûlée, Cinnamon Buns, Chocolate Banana Walnut Loaf, and Mixed Fruit Danish. Of course, you can’t leave without a couple of buttery croissants and pain au chocolat. Their shop doesn’t have a dine-in area, so take note of their take-away-only policy if you’re planning to swing by.
