Located on the first level of King Albert Park Residences Mall, The Wild stands out from the other shops with its cool and eye-catching neon signs.
The brightly-coloured signs drew my attention to the two-storey eatery, and I was curious about what they had to offer.
As we stepped further into the eatery, there’s a counter for ordering and a kitchen right behind it where the magic happens. We skimmed through the menu and took our pick before making our way up.
The dining area is located on the second level. The splash of graffiti art and quaint but colourful interior gave the store an exuberant touch.
We ordered a Har Cheong Burger (S$11) with a set meal (S$3) that comes with a choice of fries, corn or onion rings and drinks.
The burger came with a generous piece of Har Cheong Fried Chicken sandwiched in between soft and fluffy homemade buns.
The chicken was tender and not overly greasy. As we bit into it, we could hear the crunch so that’s a sign that it’s been well-fried. It could do with a stronger prawn paste taste in my opinion, though they mentioned that you could request for it to be stronger if you’d like.
What I found really special about the burger was the garlic chilli sauce (which is basically the chicken rice chilli) in the burger. Although some people might not have a high tolerance for spicy food, however, I personally love spicy food and felt that there could be more of the garlic chilli sauce to complement the meat.
Their signature The Wild Burger (S$16) was also completed with a set meal (S$3). The flavoured burgers have different patty options such as chicken, beef or lamb although the majority go for beef.
The Wild uses Angus beef which they grind and assemble themselves. All the buns are also made in-house daily in smaller batches to keep wastage to a minimum.
The Wild Burger comes with caramelised onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, lettuce, bacon strips, of course, the signature Angus beef patty. The beef was extremely juicy and tender, though it’s a little difficult to get everything in one bite.
Because of how soft the patty is, it simply fell apart as I bit into it. Someone once told me that the messier the burger, the nicer it is and I couldn’t agree more.
Though the salted egg craze has somewhat died down, I’m always up for anything salted egg. Here we have the Salted Egg Wings (S$8 for 6 pieces). The fried wings were doused in the creamy and savoury salted egg sauce. Though there were chilli bits were sprinkled over the dish, it wasn’t too spicy so it’s good for people who can’t handle spice.
Personally, I would prefer if my Har Cheong Burger had a stronger prawn paste taste and more garlic chilli sauce.
It is also quite a walk away from King Albert Park MRT Station so it’s a place that I’d go back to only if I’m in the area.
