If you ask most Malaysians about one food dish they can’t live without, I’m sure Hainanese breakfast will be mentioned. The love for butter kaya toast and soft boiled egg can never be replaced. And Thong Kee Cafe is definitely one of the decent spots you can visit when  you’re craving a Hainanese breakfast.

Over the years, Thong Kee Cafe has opened several outlets around the KL and Selangor area. They not only sell the usual Hainanese breakfast items like butter kaya toast and soft boiled egg, but also butter kaya croissant (RM6.50), a combination I didn’t expect to work so well, but it does.

Other than croissants, Thong Kee Cafe features a selection of bagels, doughnuts and muffins to cater to Western tastebuds.

10 best kopitiams in Klang Valley for classic local food with a twist

A meal is not complete without a beverage! So, if you’re looking to have some traditional drinks, I definitely recommend the TK 1+1 (RM4.80) (go for the iced one!), which is also one of the signature items on their menu. TK 1+1 is a mixture of tea and coffee.

The taste of the coffee is stronger than the tea as it contains a shot of Hainanese Espresso. Even so, it’s easy to drink for those like me who don’t fancy coffee. I personally like this drink because it is smooth and creamy, rich in aroma but not as bitter as coffee.

If you’re looking for a heavier meal, there are also delectable mains like Claypot Lao Shu Fen (RM8.50), Char Kueh Teow (RM8.00) and Yee Mee (RM7.50). However, Thong Kee Cafe is still better known for its bread and coffee.

Coffee is not something that I’d usually go for but after trying Thong Kee, it has fostered my love for coffee. I’m sure you won’t stop after the first sip!
