By now, I’m pretty sure most of us are familiar with the brand, Tiger Sugar. After all, they are one of the best places in town where you can get a decent cup of Brown Sugar Boba Fresh Milk when your cravings call for it.

Well, bubble tea aside, the brand is now raising their game with their latest concept—Tiger Sugar Dessert—which has officially made its debut in Singapore at Capitol Singapore.

Tiger Sugar Dessert is in fact not an entirely new notion from the popular brand. Originally from Taiwan, it has made its mark in there for more than 10 years, establishing its name for innovative yet traditional Taiwanese desserts with an added modern twist.

Decked in a classic black and gold combination, the storefront eludes a certain sense of elegance and sophistication that is shared amongst all the Tiger Sugar outlets worldwide. With the bar-like ambience and bossa nova music playing at the background, one will not expect the place to be serving Taiwanese desserts!

I started off with the store’s signature dessert, Taiwan Taro Lava With Taro Pearl And Cream Mouse (S$6.60). Comprising of taro and sweet potato tapioca balls, taro paste and topped with cream mousse, this dessert takes on a modernised twist of my all-time favourite—orh nee (sweet yam paste).

Served in a cup, although the taro paste was slightly watered down, it was still fragrant and smooth to drink. With every gulp I take, the tapioca balls and shredded taro added a layer of texture and chewiness which I really enjoyed.

If you are a fan of mango sago or desserts that have distinct sweet and sour taste contrast, you will fall in love with the Fresh Mango With Golden Crystal And Creamy Sago Milk (S$6.90). The mango puree is sweet and refreshing which paired well with the slight acidity of the fresh mangoes. The addition of the crystal jelly was a nice touch as it gave the dessert an addictive crunchy bite.

Next up was the Roasted Mung Bean Soup With Golden QQ (S$6). To be honest, I’m not a fan of mung beans, thus, I was not expecting much from this when it was served. But I was pleasantly surprised when I took my first mouthful.

The soup had a unique toasted nutty flavour which was different from regular green bean soup as the mung beans—imported from Taiwan—were roasted and cooked multiple times, resulting in this simple yet flavourful masterpiece.

My favourite dessert for the day goes to the Purple Rice With Red Bean Soup And Sago (S$6). I usually consume my red bean soup warm, but this time, it was served chilled and I absolutely loved it. The red beans were not overcooked or mushy, retaining its bite and fragrance whilst the purple rice added a layer of earthiness making the dessert rich and robust as a whole.

Feel free to add other toppings such as the Taiwan Black Sesame Rice Ball (S$1.70) to uplift this homely dessert for a filling and nutrient-dense treat!

As much as I enjoyed the desserts served, some of you might agree with me that it is on the pricey side of the spectrum. With that said, the ingredients Tiger Sugar Dessert uses are imported directly from different regions of Taiwan, thus, ensuring the quality and consistency of their products.

If you are a fan of traditional taste and flavours, Tiger Sugar Desserts will certainly win your hearts. Well, I for sure will be making returned trips for their Purple Rice With Red Bean Soup!
