Toast Hut, a popular kaya toast and kopi stall at Singapore’s Old Airport Road Food Centre, has permanently closed its doors. The owner, Melvin, originally planned to reopen after the food centre’s renovation, which began in May 2024 and was set to last 4 months. However, facing manpower issues, Melvin decided to close the stall for good.

Toast Hut was renowned for its distinctive kaya spread, offering a lighter sweetness than other stalls, and for its meticulously brewed coffee. These offerings, honed through years of practice, had earned the stall a loyal customer base. Toast Hut was also well known for its Iced Kopi (S$1.60) which is aromatic and fragrant.

The closure of Toast Hut marks the end of an era for fans who appreciated its nostalgic, traditional breakfast offerings, but Melvin’s new venture promises to bring fresh flavours while carrying forward his culinary expertise.

The decision to close the iconic stall underscores the challenges small food businesses face in Singapore, particularly when it comes to finding and maintaining sufficient staff. However, it also opens up opportunities for Melvin to explore different culinary avenues while continuing to serve his loyal customer base.
