It’s a 旺旺 (prosperous) day for old-school pastry lovers. Guess what? Famous for their piping-hot curry puffs at Old Airport Road Food Centre, Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff is opening a new outlet at Bendemeer Market & Food Centre on 1 May.

Featured in our list of “10 best curry puffs in Singapore for less than $2“, they are one of the staple, must-try stalls at Old Airport Road.

Founded by an ex-hotel pastry chef 20 years ago, the pioneer pastry store offers a selection of mouth-watering curry puffs that are freshly handmade in-store daily! Testament to years of culinary expertise, the owner’s curry puffs can only be described as ho jiak.

Wang Wang Crispy Curry Puff truly lives up to its name.

Unlike franchised pastries that can be easily bought off shelves, Wang Wang’s Crispy Curry Puffs boasts a flaky golden-brown shell with intricate layers of airy crust. I can’t imagine how much effort it takes to fold that unique shape from scratch every morning!

Feast your eyes on this.

What’s more, encased in this gorgeous gorgeous curry puff shell are ingredients that are all prepared on-site.

My fellow aspiring chefs who have attempted to make a dumpling before know how difficult it is to contain fillings in a fragile dough wrapper that threatens to tear anytime. Now think about holding together potato chunks or thick yam paste with a delicate pastry shell. How do they manage to do this sia? I’ll probably take me 24 hours for a singular puff.

Similar to the original branch, their new outlet at Bendemeer specialises in 4 curry puff varieties. Be sure to try their signature Crispy Curry Puff (S$1.80) that is chock-full with a creamy curry filling of diced chicken and potato chunks!

If you want something different, their savoury Crispy Sardine Puff (S$1.80) and Crispy Black Pepper Puff (S$2) pack a punch. For fellow sweet tooths, the orh nee-esque Crispy Yam Paste Puff (S$1.80) might just be for you.
