I’ve always been a sucker for a good pasar malam – the delectable food and drinks, affordable shopping deals, and of course, the fun and games that date back to my childhood. Needless to say, visiting this Geylang Serai Extravaganza 3 Bazaar at Wisma Geylang Serai got me all buzzed and excited to see what was in store for me.

Featuring over 40 food and retail stalls, Geylang Serai Extravaganza 3 Bazaar runs till 11 Aug 2024. Expect to be spoiled for choice with the options there, as well as live performances and an epic drone show on 10 Aug. For the little ones (or the young at heart), there are arcade games and even a bouncy castle to enjoy as well!

Wisma Geylang Serai - Games

Food-wise, the stalls were packed with traditional and not-so-traditional pasar malam fare. My game plan was to try the less common foods and see if they won my stamp of approval – and hopefully see more of them at future pasar malams.

Wisma Geylang Serai - Satay Kak Pah

First off, the Grilled Mussels (S$11 for 6 pieces) from Satay Kak Pah. These mussels were grilled with sambal hijau, generously topped with shredded mozzarella cheese that was melted down, and an additional layer of cheese sauce.

I was quite skeptical of the sambal hijau and cheese mix, but surprisingly, they went together quite well. The sambal hijau was flavourful with a nice spicy kick, and the cheese on top helped to alleviate some of the spiciness.

Wisma Geylang Serai - Mr Vadai

Next up, I tried the Pani Puri (S$5 for 4 pieces) from Mr Vadai. Known to be a common street food in India and one I enjoyed a lot growing up, so I was really excited to see it here and thought I’d give it a try.

Honestly, I had no complaints – it was a classic. While it wasn’t mind-blowing or earth-shattering, it still tasted pretty great and took me back to my childhood.

Wisma Geylang Serai - Planet Bakso

For the last savoury item, I decided to go for more of a main dish and tried the Cheese Bakso (S$9) from Planet Bakso. This featured traditional mee bakso with a twist – one of the meatballs was easily triple the size of the regular ones and stuffed with gooey cheese!

I got to choose from a variety of noodles, from yellow noodles to bee hoon, but opted to mix it up. The broth was nourishing and robust, while the meatballs were flavourful and well-cooked throughout.

Wisma Geylang Serai - BTHL

Moving on to the sweets, I tried the Mixed Fruits Tanghulu (S$8) from BTHL. This being my first tanghulu experience, it definitely did not disappoint. Featuring a medley of grapes, strawberries, and mandarin oranges, it was well-coated so you’d get an even layer of sugar, but not so thick that you’d struggle to take a bite.

Wisma Geylang Serai - Ah Ae Taiyaki

Feeling a little parched, I decided to try the Sticky Milk (S$6) from Ah Ae Taiyaki. This drink has gone viral online for its vibrant-coloured condensed milk drizzled around a cup of iced fresh milk.

I went with the Green Tea flavoured one, expecting it to be diabetes in a cup, but I was completely wrong. It was still light and refreshing, with the condensed milk later adding a fun treat. However, it’s best to share this drink as it fills you up pretty easily. Given that I saved this for last, my stomach was already on the brink of exploding.

All in all, I would say it’s worth checking out if you’re wondering what to do during the long National Day weekend – just bear in mind that seats are limited, so you may have to end up tabao-ing your grub home!
