0103 Coffee Stall in 91 Whampoa Food Centre recently came into the spotlight after a netizen posted about its ridiculously affordable drinks.

On 6 Mar, Facebook netizen Mat Chen took to the site to comment on his experience at the Whampoa hawker centre drink stall. In the post, he praised the affordability of the drinks at 0103 Coffee Stall, from which he bought a cup of Kopi O Kosong.

“Charge me Kopi O Kosong S$0.90! Shouldn’t it be S$1.30/S$1.40?” the former hawker stall assistant wrote.

From images of the menu included in the post, it can be seen that a cup of Kopi O (no milk) usually costs S$1 (S$1.20 for iced). However, buyers will receive a S$0.10 discount if they order any drink kosong (without sugar). As such, a cup of hot Kopi O Kosong from 0103 Coffee Stall only costs a jaw-dropping S$0.90 – a rare find in today’s economy where one usually costs S$1.20 or more.

Mat Chen approached the vendor to find the reason behind the low prices, to which the uncle replied that most of his customers were elderly. Since most of them no longer work, he tries to keep it affordable for them.

The post uploaded to the Facebook group Toa Payoh Makan Places – Your Toa Payoh & Balestier Food Guide soon gained traction. It’s no surprise that the comment section was filled with compliments for 0103 Coffee Stall.

A commenter recounted their own experience when they once bought 3 cups of Teh Ping for S$3.60 at the stall. They thought they were only charged for 2 until the vendor confirmed that a cup cost just S$1.20. Others chimed in with their praises, saying that his kopi was very gao (thick) and of good quality despite the low prices.

“He should change the name to GOLDEN UNCLE’S COFFEESHOP,” a netizen added, acknowledging the vendor’s generosity.
