New in town: 555 Halal Thai, Kranji — Dine in serenity at secluded farm resort

When one thinks of Kranji, what comes to mind? I guess it includes the likes of the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve and Kranji Marshes. As a proud eastie myself, it is indeed rare for me to voyage to the faraway northwestern lands of Singapore, let alone to nosh. Imagine my surprise when 555 Halal Thai announced its opening at Gallop Kranji Farm Resort

The lady behind the business is none other than Fatimah Mohsin, established wedding organiser and make-up artist. As wedding planning came to a halt amidst the ongoing pandemic, Ms Mohsin, together with her husband, looked to the F&B industry for another source of income. They eventually settled on 555 Halal Thai for their virgin venture.

As the name suggests, Thai cuisine is the theme for the menu. Diners can expect a communal experience driven by mookata, UFO steamboats, grilled seafood, and not to mention classics like pineapple fried rice. Look forward to munching on your favourite dishes while experiencing the tranquillity of nature all around.

In addition to the menu offerings, be sure to look out for food carts set up in the restaurant space. Some of these include Apam Balik Power, Sa-tay, Burger Joi and more. Each vendor is dedicated to selling local street food delights, so there is bound to be something for everyone’s palate.

While we cover many café and restaurant openings, 555 Halal Thai is indeed a unique take on conventional dining. Featuring a 500-seat capacity, the overall aesthetic of the eatery definitely takes cues from Ms Mohsin’s expertise in wedding planning. I would be lying if I say that I am not attracted to the idea of a meal surrounded by lush greenery—a much-needed respite from the fast pace of life.

Would I now make the trip to Kranji for 555 Halal Thai’s dining experience? Perhaps. Here’s to wishing Ms Mohsin and her husband all the best in the restaurant’s grand opening on 7 December 2020.
