Tucked along the rows of stalls in Amoy Street Food Centre, Taste Affair serves contemporary, European food at extremely affordable prices.

This new hawker stall was opened by Mr Joshua Khoo, one of the co-founders of Saveur, and his partner Mr Joel Tan.

This humble and unassuming stall uses fancy cooking techniques like sous vide to ensure consistency as well as flavour in all of its dishes. With the goal of bringing European to the masses and to make it more accessible to the community, all the dishes are priced rather affordably, starting from only $5.

If you want to eat atas food on a budget, Taste Affair is the place for you!

We ordered the Choice of Egg x2, with Melted Cheese Toast with Slice Chorizo Sausage ($5) and scrambled eggs. We expected typical, plain eggs, but surprisingly what we got was well seasoned, creamy goodness. The sprinkling of cheese on the eggs lent a mild saltiness that we really enjoyed.

The cheese toast was crispy and gooey, reminiscent of the ever comforting grilled cheese sandwich. On the other hand, the chorizo brought about a slight saltiness and spiciness that perked up the dish.

The stall serves breakfast in the morning, with one of the offerings being the Poach Egg x2 with Hollandaise Sauce & Bacon or Chorizo ($5). The name’s a mouthful but in essence, it’s an Eggs Benedict with your choice of bacon or chorizo (and for only $5).

We got ours with bacon and it was the perfect complement to the dish. The eggs were perfectly poached and the hollandaise was rich and creamy. With the slight smokiness and saltiness of the bacon, every bite was flavourful and well-balanced.

This dish is definitely a steal and after trying it, it’ll be your new go-to spot for eggs benny!

For lunch, try the Diced Prawn & Chorizo Sausage Angel Hair Pasta ($7), which comes with a poached egg and french beans. The pasta was done aglio olio style and had a nice kick of spiciness to it. The sweet prawns, together with the spicy chorizo flavoured each bite.

The lightly-pickled cabbage and french beans provided a freshness that cleansed the palate after each bite, preventing us from feeling jelak. Overall, a well balanced and cohesive dish, despite the many flavours present.

Lastly, we had the Poach Chicken Leg with Flavoured Rice ($5) that came with sautéed mushrooms. It’s usually served with saffron rice but they ran out so we got the garlic rice instead.

The chicken is cooked sous vide, which resulted in it being incredibly juicy and tender. The mushrooms added an earthy flavour to each bite. This dish is definitely something that’ll fill you up and at the same time leave you craving for more.
