For all McDonald’s fans, I’m sure you’ve heard that the short-lived Chocolate Pie last year has finally returned to Singapore on 22 February 2019. Hooray!

However, McDonald’s Malaysia has outdone us with their brand new Chicken Rendang Pie and Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie. Regardless of whether you’re a fan of savoury treats or rich and decadent desserts, this should excite you all the same.

Once we heard the news, we had to take a trip to our neighbouring country to try them out for ourselves.

The exterior of the Chicken Rendang Pie (RM4.50) reminded me of the Creamy Herb Chicken Pie in Singapore previously, with the same hard and slightly flaky crust. I did not have high expectations as rendang is a difficult taste to nail.

However, as I split the pie open, I caught a whiff of its fragrance which brought my hopes up. I liked the viscous consistency and the fragrant herbs, and it had just the right amount of spice with a full-bodied flavour. I appreciated the tender shredded chicken that was within the pie as well.

If that was not tasty enough, the Salted Caramel Chocolate Pie (RM3.50) completely won me over. I personally prefer this original crusty and crispy shell rather than the flakier version.

Prying it apart exposed the molten chocolate filling. The nicely toasted brown caramel juxtaposed the dark chocolate and it looked amazing.

Sweet and decadent, it tasted just as good as it looked. The combination of the salted caramel and the mildly rich chocolate was delightful. This is definitely an indulgent treat that’s worth the calories.

If you are heading up to Malaysia, try these pies out and let us know what you think of them!
