If you are a fan of Chicago popcorn maestro Garrett’s Popcorn, I have great news for you.

Garrett Gold 1

Garrett Gold is an upscale version of the original brand, and they’ve finally opened the very first store in Asia. Head to the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre for your popcorn fix!

Garrett Gold 2

The store is pretty hard to miss, with its luxurious cream and wood palette and gold accents. A large display commands your attention, containing tiny bonbons perched on their own stands.

Garrett Gold serves up the creme de la creme of popcorn. Besides the usual offerings found at the various existing Garrett’s outlets islandwide, Garrett Gold also serves two types of chocolate bonbons in four flavours.

Garrett Gold 4

We were particularly excited to try out the Ruby Chocolate Popcorn, with its delightful pink hue derived naturally from reddish-pink unfermented cocoa beans.

With each bite, I could taste the rich and sweet caramel popcorn that was distinctly Garrett’s. The chocolate coating was a tad disappointing as there was little to no chocolate flavour.

However, the ruby chocolate did impart a little tanginess.

Garrett Gold 6

We also tried out the other three flavours, which also feature Garrett’s signature caramel popcorn in the centre. I personally enjoyed the Dark Chocolate flavour the most as the sweetness was slightly muted.

The milk and white chocolate flavours, on the other hand, were a little over the top for me in terms of sweetness. The caramel popcorn was already super sweet, and the chocolate only heightened this and made it more jelak.

Garrett Gold sells the products in two ranges, the Single Kernel (S$9+ for a tube, S$18+ for a jar), and Bonbons (S$12+ for 3pcs, S$19+ for 6pcs, S$38+ for 12pcs).

The major difference between bonbons and single kernels are that bonbons feature a popcorn cluster covered in chocolate, while the single kernels only use one piece of popcorn.

In my opinion, the bonbons are better as treats and premium gifts, while the kernels are more snackable. If you want to go over-the-top, you may also request for a bonbon tower, which is tailor-made for each customer.

These menu items are exclusive to Garrett Gold and cannot be found at the regular Garrett stores. So if they sound tantalising to you, come down soon!

Garrett Gold is a popcorn lover’s dream. Even if you can’t finish it all by yourself, getting a carton or two of the bonbons here would certainly make for a classy gift for your loved ones.
