Butter chicken, biryani, prata. Just thinking about these traditional Indian favourites is enough to make me salivate. The cuisine’s vibrance is one which is shown through its dishes. Incredibly rich and flavourful, I’ll never miss a chance to indulge in some quality Indian fare.

So you can imagine my excitement when I heard about Masalaa Bar. With a menu curated by Chef Milind Sovani, the new eatery serves up plates that are a refreshing take on traditional Indian food. Featuring a wide selection of cocktails, you can be sure to add this to your list of great dinner hangout spots.

Dishes here undoubtedly take one by surprise. If you want a spin on a classic, go for the Murg Malai Tikka (S$16), which offers skewered chicken kebab smothered in a basil pesto sauce. Talk about fusion.

The Monsterous MB Papad (S$8) is another eye-catching dish that makes for a great sharing plate. A thin, crispy dough base comes dressed in diced vegetables for a yummy starter option that is also very affordable.

Touted by Masalaa Bar as the original Indian fish and chips, the Coastal Surmai Fry (S$8) consists of battered seer fish steaks that are fried to perfection and served with a pinch of lemon and spice. A perfect side dish for sharing, this one is bound to satisfy any seafood lover.

Indeed, it is interesting to see this unique approach toward Indian cuisine. Yes, you can find your classics like chicken tikka, but Masalaa Bar is here to surprise your taste buds with completely original and new flavours. Even if you’re simply looking for a place to have a few drinks and hang out, the restaurant houses a bar with a wide selection of cocktails for you to sip on while you dine on quality food.
