I’ve gotten looks of disapproval more than just once when I reveal that I’m an avid rider of the spin community—in the eyes of many, it’s nothing but a cult-following. But the naysayers won’t stand in the way of my road to fitness. Spin, resistance training, or rhythm cycling; whatever you call it, ensures that I clock in my thrice-a-week quota of cardio exercise and that’s enough reason for me. That’s why for an eastie and an eager rider like me, RS Cycle in Kembangan only spells delight.

RS Works is a two-in-one really, both a bicycle shop and spin studio in one. It even boasts the title of the largest cycling shop in Singapore, at almost 3,000 square feet big. Further in, you’ll find the RS Cycle studio, fitted snugly with 17 bikes. Classes are currently ongoing in the mornings and evenings at various timings across the week, but we’re certain that’s bound to change as the studio grows and evolves.

The studio is helmed by Jolyn Ng, a former spin and rumble instructor at a popular fitness studio in Singapore, and she currently teaches all the classes, though new and other spin instructors might hit the podium very soon.

For the uninitiated, spinning is a high-intensity cardio workout designed to be both immersive and engaging, so you’ll soon enough forget just how hard you’re working. Okay, maybe it’s hard to ignore the fact that you’re out of breath and sweating buckets, but accompanying lights and a banging playlist does help to cushion the pain by a far mile.

The classes at RS Cycle come in Starter and Standard, where the former acts as an introductory class for new riders, while the latter is for those already acquainted with the notorious workout. Either way, I’m confident you’ll fall in love with spin just as I did if you gave it a shot.
