It’s finally here. Disney+ Singapore has hit our little red dot. Boasting a vast pool of content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and National Geographic (to name but a few), this streaming platform offers all your favourite blockbusters and classics alike.
Pamper yourself with the Star Wars Trilogy or embark on an Avengers movie marathon; the choice is yours with a subscription to Disney+ SG that costs S$11.98 per month or S$119.98 per year.
Nothing amps up your watching experience like an accompaniment of food. Be it with a bowl of freshly popped popcorn or a bag of barbeque-flavoured potato chips; I think we’ll all agree that food and shows come hand-in-hand. Here are 5 Disney+ SG exclusives to watch for all avid foodies out there to take things up a notch.
1. The Good, The Bad, The Hungry
When it comes to the world of competitive eating, two names that immediately jump out are Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi. The Good, The Bad, The Hungry is a documentary detailing the intense rivalry between the two titans of industry at the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest, as well as behind-the-scenes preparations for both competitive eating athletes.
Come to watch them down a massive pile of hotdogs in a matter of minutes, but stay to learn more about the intriguing world of speed eating.
2. Be Our Chef
Be Our Chef is a Disney+ SG original. Here, a traditional cooking competition between families isn’t all that there is to look forward to. The dishes presented in this series are all playfully inspired by Disney movies and characters.
Take, for example, the Lion King’ challenge, where this plate of ‘Saucy Yet Satisfying’ draws inspiration from the natural landscape of The Pride Lands of Africa, as well as Rafiki’s iconic bowl of red dust. I shan’t give too much away, as I think it’s best that you check out this clever cooking series for yourself.
3. Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted
Who can forget our favourite chef and television personality? Yes, you can catch Gordon Ramsay: Uncharted on Disney+ SG to watch the Michelin-starred chef in his element. In this series, chef Ramsay journeys to some of the most remote and exotic locations on Earth to do what he does best—cooking.
Equal parts hilarious and exciting; this is one for all the budding home cooks and foodies alike. Your next TV obsession might just be a hop, skip and an idiot sandwich away.
4. Soul Food
If you’re looking to relive a classic, Soul Food is another one of Disney+ SG’s titles that will pique your interest. This film tells the story of an African-American family residing in Chicago and their daily struggles, joys, and realities.
It’s all held together by the concept of food at its centre, with homemade Sunday dinners and bubbling pots of beignets nudging this heartwarming story along.
5. Ratatouille
I’m guessing this one needs no introduction. Ratatouille is a 2007 Pixar classic that offers the very best of all things animation and storytelling. For the uninitiated, the movie revolves around Remy, a rat who aspires to be a renowned chef in France.
It’s all a distant dream, that is, until he meets Linguini, a garbage boy who knows little about cooking. The unlikely pair meet in Paris, where their unusual relationship makes for a thrilling 2-hour film experience that is bound to leave you hungry afterwards. It’s a must-watch on Disney+ SG’s catalogue. Even if you’ve seen it, I think it warrants a second screening.
