On 6 June 2022, Five Oars Heritage reopened their doors a few units down from their old unit at 43 Tanjong Pagar Road.

A few weeks after they had closed the previous outlet in Jan 2021 and made the shift to its current location at Upper East Coast Road, a fatal car crash happened at 37 Tanjong Pagar, which resulted in the deaths of all five passengers in the car.

Now, they are re-opening a third outlet, in conjunction with a hole-in-a-wall speakeasy, Night Hawk, located within the same unit. Night Hawk opens on 7 Jun 2022.

Five Oars Heritage’s interior is decked with rustic, wooden themes, very much similar to their current Upper East Coast outlet’s theme.

Some favourites from the old Tanjong Pagar outlet are also available at the new one.

Mentaiko Mac & Cheese (S$16) has been a crowd favourite since the previous Tanjong Pagar unit. The macaroni pasta is cooked till al dente, and the cheese is creamy. The mentaiko sauce adds an umami kick which balances out the greasiness of the dish. Additionally, there are small chunks of crab and prawn, and it is topped generously with ebiko.

Beer Battered Fish & Chips (S$25) consists of lightly battered snapper, which is crispy on the outside yet soft and juicy on the inside. It is served with a side of fries, housemade tartar sauce, and pea mash. While pea mash sounds a little unusual, you will find that it  complements the fish really well.

Five Oars Waffles (S$18) was created for Five Oars Coffee Roaster’s third anniversary last year, and it is a permanent item on the menu. Housemade sourdough waffles are stacked on top of each other with espresso caramel sauce drizzled all over, and pecan, granola, coffee powder crumbs are dusted lightly on top of the waffles. Served with mascarpone and vanilla ice cream, this sinful dessert is definitely a hit among customers.

Five Oars Heritage has two menus: the day menu is available from 8.30am to 5.15pm, while the night menu is served from 6pm to 9pm. The dishes mentioned above are all available off the day menu.

Night Hawk, serving cocktails, will be opened from Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 5.30pm to 12am.

For fans of the hipster cafe, do check out the snazzy new outlet and soak in the warm, cozy ambience.
