Banh mi is a miniature-sized baguette that should be crunchy on the outside but fluffy and soft on the inside. It is split lengthwise and a sandwich is then constructed by stuffing fresh vegetables and meat between the halves.

A herby and fresh flavour is also present, thanks to the addition of mint leaves and cilantro. Although I am aware that some Vietnamese food fans often pick those fragrant herbs out.

Bánh Mì Saigon: Hidden spot in Ang Mo Kio with the best bánh mì in Singapore

More and more establishments have been seeking out hawker stalls or lesser-known locations to launch businesses. Doing so keeps the prices of their food and drink items relatively affordable and this attracts crowds. The Singaporean baker behind Red Dot Baguette bakes all the bread in-house. This is a rare sight in Singapore’s Vietnamese food scene!

Do not let their simple storefront setup fool you— the team behind this business seems to have nailed the 3 components of the sandwich effortlessly. The perfect ratio of meat slices to fresh vegetables to baguette must be achieved for the perfect banh mi

There are only 5 variations of the sandwich available here. The most popular is the Pork Ham Baguette (S$6) which features thick slabs of pork squeezed into the bun. Throw in an additional S$1 to make it a combo set with a beverage. The drink selection includes Iced Vietnamese Coffee, Iced Thai Milk Tea and canned soft drinks.

The other meat flavours are BBQ Pork Baguette (S$6), Chicken Baguette (S$6) and Beef Baguette (S$6). Only one vegetarian version is available — Egg Baguette (S$6). Enjoy the venture up to this Vietnamese stall and get a simple but hearty lunch!
