For dessertholics who have been loving the fudgy pitch-black brownies from Muslim-owned Dr. Kitchen for the past 4 years, I regret to inform you that they have recently announced their closure on 17 May 2024 on their official Instagram page.

Dr. Kitchen, with 14,600 followers on IG, rose from modest beginnings as a home-based business in Jul 2020. It was setup during the COVID-19 circuit breaker period by husband and wife duo, Mr Hafid and Dr. Nadia. The couple started off selling cream puffs and durian puffs and gradually added brownies and tiramisu to their menu.

As the online bakery grew in popularity, production in their humble home kitchen became increasingly challenging. This prompted the couple to move to Siglap, opening their takeaway shop and central kitchen on 6 May 2022. Dr. Kitchen also had a booth at Takashimaya basement 2 near Cold Storage.

Dr. Kitchen’s So Black Brownies (SBB) weren’t black because the bakers were busy on their mobile devices and forgot to check on the oven! It was because 70% dark chocolate was used, which made it less sinful and not too sweet.

The moist, chewy brownies came in 17 different varieties (including plain), and were filled with several molten fillings such as hazelnut Nutella, crunchy peanut butter, raspberry and many other desirable flavours.

The bakery also released special seasonal flavours for occasions like Deepavali, where Dr. Nadia would create brownies with toppings like chilli roasted cashew and pistachio rose.

The reason for their sudden closure is because Dr. Nadia is relocating to Amsterdam to join Mr Hafid who has been there for quite some time. They thanked and apologised to their loyal customers who had made advanced bookings for the upcoming weeks and months.

So what’s in store for Dr. Kitchen for the future? Dr. Nadia mentioned that they may open a stall in Amsterdam in the near future. Let’s give them our blessings and best wishes!
