For Westies who know about the delicious charcoal-grilled meat jjajangmyeon at Wooga Jjajang located at Old Airport Road Food Centre, isn’t it a joy to discover that there’s now a 2nd branch located at Foodland 713 kopitiam in Clementi West? Especially since its flagship outlet is temporarily closed for 4 months.

Yes, if you didn’t know by now, Old Airport Road Food Centre is currently undergoing renovation works till 30 Sep 2024. Due to manpower issues, the original Wooga Jjajang and its 2nd concept, Wooga Bimbowl & Kal-Guksu, have joined forces and rebranded to Wooga Jjajang & Bimbowl (took over the latter’s location).

The new outlet of Wooga Jjajang serves all of its usual signature dishes but has added a few restaurant-quality Korean dishes, including a Cold Jjangmyeon (S$9/S$12). It’s said to be the first in Singapore and possibly the whole world— a bold statement from the owner, Marcus!

I’m a die-hard fan of cold noodles— be it cold udon, naengmyeon or soba— anything to combat Singapore’s irritating hot and humid weather! But cold jjangmyeon? Now, that’s a first!

The chewy house-made noodles were packed with pork belly slices, bits of Japanese cucumber, mushrooms, onions and chilli. I have to admit, I was skeptical before tasting it, but now i’m officially a convert.

I thought to myself, “why didn’t anyone think of serving cold jjajangmyeon sooner?” Do note that this dish is only available from 6 Jun 2024 onwards.

If you’re a purist and find yourself shaking your head over this ridiculous monstrosity, take a chill pill. They have a Stone Plate Seafood Jjajiang Mian (S$28), which is fried over a blazing wok for a smoky tinge of wok hei.

It is then poured over a hot stone dish which keeps the noodles warm longer and topped with deep-fried sweet potato shreds. We found it amusing that from certain angles, it reminded us of KL Hokkien mee.

For lovers of the spicy and smoky Korean noodles like my colleague, Rachel, ordering the Stone Plate Seafood Jjampong (S$32) is a must.

Large enough to be shared among 2 individuals, the noodles contain succulent prawns, sotong, black mussels, white clams and green veggies. And just like the previous dish, it arrives in a sizzling stone plate.

The 450g Seoggalbi Stone Plate Bbq Set (S$49) featuring pork collar, chicken and pork belly, is the perfect dish for meat enthusiasts seeking to load up on protein. The meats are meticulously grilled atop a charcoal grill, before placing it on a piping-hot stone plate with a soy-based sauce.

The set comes with sundubu, seafood pancake, a set of 6 side dishes, and a basket of lettuce.

To enjoy the various cuts further, prepare ssam wraps by stuffing them with lettuce, gochujang sauce and raw garlic slices— be sure to devour the entire thing in one bite for maximum satisfaction!

We also spotted Menbosha (S$10), comprising 6 golden-brown squares of fried toast stuffed with shrimp; pair it with ketchup or have them plain which is just as yummy.

Similar to a Korean restaurant, you can get a complimentary set of banchan which has items like cucumber kimchi, potato salad and marinated fish cakes. Just a heads up, though— it’s only free for the first round.

So if you’re craving for some authentic Korean food, head to Foodland 713 kopitiam and head towards Wooga Jjajang at Clementi West.
