Yearning for a place that sparks your imagination? Do you long for a meal where the ambiance transports you to another world? Then come explore this cafe, where the forest whispers its stories and every dish is a delicious surprise. The Portal Cafe in Johor Bahru just opened in February 2024 and it may be the brunch spot you seek for (or never knew you’d enjoy).

The Portal Cafe swings open its doors at 9am and sees people of all walks of life step in.

Step into a nature haven! Lush plant walls, vibrant potted plants, and a majestic hanging tree as the centrepiece create a truly immersive experience.

The bulk of the menu showcases fusion food as most of their dishes all have influences from all over the world. I’d recommend the Laksa Soft Shell Crab (RM44) and Pulled Beef Quesadilla (RM34). The Laksa Soft Shell Crab is made of deep fried soft shell crab on top of slices of buttered brioche bread and a laksa broth made out of sauteed vegetables.

The Pulled Beef Quesadilla consists of the cafe’s signature bulgogi pulled beef, melted cheese, corn, and coleslaw, all placed inside grilled tortilla bread, sprinkled with salad and adorned with grated cheese on top.

If you want to have a bite before your main course arrives, you can order the Fried Calamari (RM26) or Truffle Fries (RM26) — something to kickstart your meal.

Now, more on the vibes of this place. As soon as you walk in, you’ll see an upside-down pine tree, defying the laws of gravity! The interior is adorned with greenery on the walls, and as you walk in, you can feel the presence of nature surrounding you, even while you eat!

The natural elements of the space are complemented by granite and marble tabletops and wooden armchairs with comfortable cushioning.

The Portal Cafe combines a relaxing space with a wide-ranging menu, making it a great spot for any traveller. So add this to your JB must-visit list!
