When talking about international cuisine, Western dishes often come to mind. But are you familiar with Sri Lankan food? If not, you should definitely head over to Petaling Jaya and visit Umac House.

The eatery is tucked away in a vintage 1970s bungalow, adding to its mysterious charm. The entire place radiates a homely vibe, retaining much of its original character— all my stress melts away with such a cosy setting. However, parking may be tricky since it’s a house compound.

If you’ve checked out their Google reviews, you’ve likely seen rave endorsements for the Sri Lankan Lamparis (RM32.90). The dish is served in a banana leaf parcel and comes with sides such as spicy eggplant pickle, masi sambal, coconut belacan, vegetables paalkari, boiled egg, fish cutlet, chicken masala, and mutton paalkari.

Another highly endorsed dish is the Sri Lankan Briyani, available with your choice of vegetables (RM15), chicken (RM18), mutton (RM20), or seafood (RM25). This slow-cooked delicacy features aromatic basmati rice paired with tender chicken, and is served with raita, spicy onion, pudina chutney (mint chutney), and curry. The exotic spices will surely add a vibrant kick to your meal.

The Keema Thosai is another popular item at the restaurant, offering 2 meat options: chicken (RM14.90) and mutton (RM15.90). The thosai is stuffed with your preferred minced meat, fresh vegetables, ghee, and egg, and comes with condiments like coconut chutney and curry. It promises a uniquely satisfying meal.
