Besides the fact that Nimmies Pastry Cafe is situated in a cool, 2-storey bungalow, it’s also convenient to get there. All you need to do is head to Taman Melodies, just a short 10-minute drive away from the checkpoint — easy peasy!

With avid cafe hoppers consisting of locals and Singaporeans, getting a seat here is not an easy affair especially on weekends. Thankfully, there are tons of seating space out at the front yard, as well as 2 stories of air-conditioned comfort within the space.
While everyone is raving about Nimmies’ wide range of pastries and drinks, I bet some of you are unaware that the menu also offers hot dishes for dinner till 11pm.

With empty stomachs and raging appetites, we explored the menu and curated a list of the 10 best menu items to enjoy at Nimmies Pastry Cafe in JB. Enjoy them solo, or gather your loved ones to share and savour the deliciousness.
1. Smoked Duck Masak Lemak Tagliatelle

For a delightful twist of East meets West, pasta fans can feast on the Smoked Duck Masak Lemak Tagliatelle (RM36). Just imagine al dente strands of pasta smothered in lemak gravy, then topped with succulent slices of smoked duck, and grilled long beans. Who can say no to that irresistible combination?

The rich, full-bodied gravy was creamy, with savoury, sweet, and gently spicy notes that were perfectly balanced; it coated each strand of tagliatelle. Topped with delicious pieces of smoked duck, it made for a wonderful finish.
2. Grilled Aussie Angus beef with Japanese Curry

Though I love Japanese curry, let’s face it, some places tend to make them a little too sweet which can get jelak halfway through. So when the bowl of Grilled Aussie Angus beef with Japanese Curry (RM43) arrived, I wasn’t exactly head over heels.
Surrounded by a pool of curry filled with Angus beef slices, the mound of rice with scrambled egg stood artfully by the side, sprinkled with shredded seaweed.

One spoonful was all it took — I was hooked. The curry was savoury and smoky with hidden surprises of potatoes and carrots. There’s just something magical about fluffy scrambled eggs on rice, drenched in loads of curry. To make it even better, the Angus beef slices were tender and unctuous.
I wiped the bowl clean in no time — that says a lot, doesn’t it?
3. Pistachio Supreme Croissant

With pistachio rising as a viral ingredient — from Hong Kong’s popular pistachio egg tarts to Dubai’s trending chocolate — I’m seriously tempted to gatekeep gems like the Pistachio Supreme Croissant (RM19) from Nimmies Pastry Cafe. But fine, I’ll be generous once.
Topped with white chocolate frosting and dusted with grounded pistachio, the top of the cube croissant looked like abstract art.

If you think the exterior is pretty, hold your horses — I haven’t even gotten to what’s inside. Nothing could’ve prepared me for the luxurious pistachio filling that oozed out the moment I cut into the centre. The croissant, paired with that decadent, earthy, and nutty lava centre, was nothing short of amazing.
4. Biscoff Buttercream Latte

Looking to satisfy your caffeine cravings but want something beyond the same-old cup of Joe? Then give the Biscoff Buttercream Latte (RM27) a go — it makes for a beautiful pic for the ‘gram, too!
It’s lined with grounded Biscoff crumbs around the rim as well as on top, garnished with a sprig of thyme and a Lotus biscuit. Before you start sipping on it, give the coffee a good stir. The robust coffee blend is complemented by the caramelised, gingery notes of the Biscoff, and balanced out with the smooth, slightly-tart buttercream.
5. World Chef Championship Gold Medal 2024 Fish n Chips

The World Chef Championship Gold Medal 2024 Fish n Chips (RM59) is large enough to be shared between 2 people, but no one’s stopping you from polishing it off solo. A large piece of golden-brown battered seabass, French fries, and arugula grace the plate.

The fish batter was crispy without being oily, encasing moist and flaky flesh. Besides the usual tartar dip, Nimmies also serves it with earthy truffle aioli and herby chimichurri. This gives you the freedom to mix and match different flavour profiles.

6. Shaker Lemon Pie Croissant

Seeking something zesty and fresh to lift your spirits? Then the Shaker Lemon Pie Croissant (RM18) is an excellent choice. The croissant is gorgeously topped with a layer of meringue, then flame torched to a light brown to make it aesthetically elevated. It’s basically a lemon tart, but served in a croissant form!

In the centre, a mellow lemon custard lies dormant, awaiting to be exposed and enjoyed. As your fork breaks though the soft shell of meringue and flaky croissant, the lemon cream flows out, offering a sweet-sour contrast that cuts down the richness.
7. Bandung Laici

If you’re in need of a revitalising, perk-me-up beverage to get through your post-lunch food coma, then the Bandung Laici (RM13) checks all boxes. This invigorating drink has a heavenly mix of floral rose and lychee.
For added fun and texture, jiggly chin chow pieces are mixed in and garnished with a skewered lychee and fresh mint leaves.
8. Crispy Chicken Burger

Burger aficionados can tuck into the Crispy Chicken Burger (RM41) — a stacked masterpiece featuring 2 pieces of battered, boneless chicken that are double-fried for maximum crunch. Layered with sliced cheddar cheese, fresh tomatoes and rocket lettuce, everything is stuffed between a charcoal sesame bun. And of course, they didn’t forget the French fries by the side.

Unless you have a humongous mouth that can chomp down the whole burger in one bite, it’s best to either split it in half or give it a good squish to make it flatter — the choice is yours.
The bun was fluffy and the fried chicken was lip–smackingly-good — every bite was pure joy. The crisp, fresh salad provided a refreshing balance to prevent things from becoming too heavy.
9. Kinder Bueno Comboloni

I’ve always loved snacking on Kinder Bueno, so you can imagine my excitement when the Kinder Bueno Comboloni (RM24) was served to us.The circular croissant was drizzled with chocolate and topped with Bueno cheese, with a piece of actual Kinder Bueno as a crowning touch.

I also loved the milky hazelnut filling within, which reminded me of marzipan. The hazelnut chocolate that coated the croissant made every mouthful decadent and luxurious. This would serve as an excellent dessert after a savoury main.
10. Nimmies Lemak Croissant

Didn’t expect to see your favourite nasi lemak condiments presented in a pastry form? Well, now you can with the Nimmies Lemak Croissant (RM19). This quirky-looking innovation involves a round golden-brown croissant topped with ikan bilis, peanuts, sambal, a sunny-side up, and a slice of cucumber.

If a French pastry had a love child with our local nasi lemak, this would be it. The flowy egg yolk and sweet-spicy sambal paired remarkably well with the peanuts and umami-rich anchovies. Substituting the coconut rice with the croissant was really interesting (in a good way).
