Congee lovers unite! The highly-raved Sin Heng Kee Porridge has reopened in Toa Payoh on 27 Jul. With notable outlets at Hougang, Ang Mo Kio and Yishun, this new location is their fourth.

Wait, notice how I used the word ‘reopened’?

Fellow residents will know the answer. A day after the beloved porridge spot announced its opening on 23 Mar, it abruptly ceased operations at the same Toa Payoh branch “due to unforeseen circumstances”. While no official statement was released, according to a netizen, the closure resulted from “water pipes flooding the shop”.

“Finally open!” Fast forward to now, news of Sin Heng Kee Porridge’s reopening at Toa Payoh was met with much excitement. Guess what, it is the only outlet open till midnight! New supper spot? Lucky you. As a fan of their comforting bowls of congee, I think our Boss Man will be pleased to hear this LOL

Be spoilt for choice. Boasting over 25 different types of porridges, the stall also has an accompanying array of claypot dishes like Ginger Onion Frog (from S$10) and Dried Chilli Cuttlefish (S$12). Here come the main stars of the show.

Apparently, they are the “best congee in Singapore”.

Thick yet velvety-smooth, the Signature Porridge (S$7.50) features a generous portion of ingredients such as century egg, sliced pork, pig intestines, meatballs and cuttlefish. You may also opt for the simpler Sliced Pork & Meatball Porridge (S$5.50) to the bougie Wild-Caught Red Grouper Porridge (S$13).

Regardless, do not leave Sin Heng Kee Porridge without the You Tiao (S$1.50) that regulars swear by. Dip that golden-brown fritter into your chosen congee for a satisfying contrast in crisp and soft textures!

Other add-ons such as Sliced Abalone (S$4.50/ S$8.50) and Fried Small Intestines (S$10) are available too. Well adios, I will be jio-ing Seth for a hearty lunch now.
