“Will Anchorpoint, Queensway Shopping Centre, and ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre be much more crowded now?” I can imagine nearby residents considering this issue upon hearing that Alexandra Village Food Centre at 120 Bukit Merah Lane 1 is set for a 91-day renovation.

Established in 1977, this hawker centre has over 80 stalls and forms part of the Queenstown and Bukit Merah neighbourhoods. It’s surrounded by ageing sundry shops, pet shops selling birds, and an industrial estate mainly dealing with car workshops.
The last upgrading of this 48-year-old food centre was back in May 2017, where improvements were made in a short period of about 1.5 months.

The upcoming 3-month repair and redecoration works, starting from 1 Apr (no, it isn’t an April Fool’s joke) to 30 Jun 2025 will focus on replacing the tables and chairs, installation of fans, and stall interior improvements.

Mr Stan Tan, owner of The Old Stall Hokkien Street Famous Prawn Mee, which has been operating for almost a decade, says that he will use this time to take a break and go on a much-needed vacation.
The stall is renowned for its signature Prawn Noodles that are priced at S$6, while the more substantial Pork Rib Noodles with Prawn goes for S$6 and S$8 for a regular and large portion respectively, with both soup and dry options available.

As an avid fan of Mr Avocado — which, by the way, was the pioneer stall at Alexandra Village Food Centre that started the buttery drink trend — I’d be lost for 3 months, as I haven’t found any other stall in Singapore that tops their Avocado Juice (S$3.50/S$4.50/S$7).
So for all those who are living and working around the area, you have about 3 more days to indulge in your favourite food and drink. Before the hawkers go on 3-month break, let’s give our favourite stalls one last support.
