A letter to her 16-year-old self

The 28-year-old singer-songwriter began teary-eyed, with notes in her hands, stating that this was a big moment for her and many others. She first thanked Bruno for believing in her and for his collaboration and friendship.

She then reflected on a question someone asked her recently about her fears.

“I feared that somewhere along the way [on] this journey of pursuing my dreams, I might hit a wall and possibly disappoint my 16-year-old self, who grew up always an oddball amongst society, that wished someday, she too could be herself and equally pursue her dreams just as well as anyone else I saw on television.”

“12 years later, I dedicate this award to my 16-year-old self…”

Thanking family, friends & fans who always supported her

Rosé also dedicated the award to those who have watched her grow as an artiste, placed those dreams in her and put her where she is right now.

This includes her hardworking team, stylists, songwriters and producers, as well as her loving parents and sister, Alice. And of course, she took time to appreciate her dearest fans and fellow BLACKPINK members, Jisoo, Jennie and Lisa. BLACKPINK was also awarded Best Group on the same night, their second VMA in the same category since 2023.

Lastly, the VMA winner was grateful that she did not give up, and quoted her therapist saying, “You’ve got you.”
