If you’re a sushi lover like me, brace yourself for the bad news. Itacho Sushi has closed all its outlets, including those at ION Orchard, Novena Square 2, The Star Vista, and Bugis Junction. They were known for their delicate handcrafted dishes, featuring high-quality ingredients, which made them very popular with diners.

It seems as though 2026 is the year that name-brand restaurants which previously dominated the food landscape in Singapore quietly pull out of the market and close their doors for good.

With restaurants such as The Providore and Misato closing earlier this month, it kick-started a discourse on whether the food and beverage industry is not only suffering from smaller crowds but also from higher rental costs.

Another possible reason could be that with the rise of other popular sushi restaurants in Singapore, such as Sushi Express and Sushi-Go, diners may be flocking to these outlets instead. This, in turn, makes it difficult for Itacho Sushi to remain afloat in this current consumer market.

Additionally, Itacho Sushi has closed its take-away shop, which allowed diners to create their own unique sushi combinations. This takeaway branch was established to provide diners with a convenient and affordable option for those who crave sushi but don’t necessarily want to dine in.

Diners have raved about their low prices, with some sushi being priced under a dollar. Moreover, they even sold booze and desserts, a perfect way to complete your meal.

While the reason for Itacho Sushi’s closure is not certain, it is speculated that the business has been experiencing a decline in popularity. However, what is certain is that loyal fans will definitely miss and mourn its loss in the food scene.
