Quick Summary

Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodles at Bedok 85 Market has closed after decades of serving bak chor mee, marking the quiet retirement of a long-running, under-the-radar hawker stall. The piece reflects on its reputation for consistent bowls, family ties to neighbouring stalls, and loyal following, making it most relevant to regulars and hawker food enthusiasts familiar with the Bedok scene.

Fans of BCM will be devastated to learn that  an established stall serving up comforting bowls of bak chor mee, Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodle at Bedok 85 Market, has closed.

Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodles is a beloved hawker stall best known for its take of bak chor mee, a quintessential Singaporean noodle dish featuring minced pork, chilli, springy noodles, and BCM’s most debated ingredient, vinegar.

The stall established its reputation through word of mouth, being one of the under-the-radar hawkers not widely covered by mainstream media. After decades of running the business, the owner has decided to shutter its doors and retire.

Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodles is tied to the Central Singapore hawker scene, where many legacy bak chor mee stalls built their reputation. In fact, it is the third bak chor mee soup stall at Bedok 85, located deeper in the hawker centre than the other 2 — Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian and Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee.

To throw in a little fun fact, the owners of Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodle and Xing Ji Rou Cuo Mian are actually siblings. Talk about the power of genes — this family sure has the genes for making good BCM!

Some have remarked that Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodles serves the most consistent bowls of BCM, with some saying that they are “the best stall in this hawker centre” — high praise considering its location.

Regulars tend to rave about its firm, springy noodles (with no excessive alkaline taste), and rich, flavourful minced meat that melts in your mouth. Top that off with a fragrant, hearty broth, and you’ll understand why customers keep going back to this stall.

Now that Ah Poh Minced Meat Noodles has closed, patrons will fondly remember the comforting, hearty bowls of BCM that the owners have served over the years. Whether another BCM stall can truly recreate that taste and feeling remains to be seen.

Happy retirement, Uncle!
