Penang’s food scene is about to get even more exciting with the arrival of The Waterfront Shoppes at The Light City, the island’s first waterfront shopping mall opening in September 2026.

Spanning around 1.5 million sq ft across 4 levels, The Waterfront Shoppes sits alongside a 750m waterfront promenade, offering uninterrupted views of the Penang Bridge.
Its strategic location also makes it an easy stop for both locals and tourists, with direct access to the Penang Bridge, close proximity to Penang International Airport and future connectivity via the Penang Mutiara LRT Line.

While shopping will be a major draw, the food offerings are equally impressive. One of the biggest highlights is a 30K sq ft heritage food hall, bringing together a variety of Penang’s iconic local dishes under one roof.
Home to over 300 retail and dining outlets, the massive seafront destination promises everything from authentic Penang street food and waterfront restaurants to cafes with scenic coastal views.

Beyond the food, visitors can also look forward to a Beverly Hills-inspired Rodeo Drive Strip lined with flagship stores and open-air retail spaces, a 45K sq ft cinema, and a picturesque waterfront promenade that’s perfect for an evening stroll or snapping photos with the Penang Bridge in the background.

The Waterfront Shoppes is part of the larger The Light City integrated development, which also includes luxury residences, office towers, international hotels and the upcoming Penang Waterfront Convention Centre (PWCC).
Combining dining, shopping, entertainment and waterfront views in one destination, it’s shaping up to be one of Penang’s biggest lifestyle attractions when it opens this September.
