Hands down, this is the most chio pet-friendly place I’ve ever been. For real.
Inspired by the Western Eastern Chinoiserie, A Beautiful Day Café Tea Room at Paya Lebar is adorned with dazzling Victorian decorations with a touch of Chinese style from the 19th Century.
Sounds familiar? Yes, the cafe used to be situated at Changi City Point 2 years ago. Now offering a tantalising and gorgeous array of dishes that includes their reimagined version of Japan’s chazuke, your next hangout spot is grounded in wellness!
According to Zach, the founder of A Beautiful Day Café Tea Room, the design choices stemm from his experiences with anxiety. All items go through intensive R&D (Research & Development) to create “Instagrammable dishes and drinks to promote healthier lifestyles.”
Rest and unwind with your furbaby here.
Get the zen started with the Apple Wood Smoked Negitoro Kway Pie Tee (S$18.90). Topped with crunchy tobiko, this moreish shareable is literally served in smokin’ fashion. Unlike traditional Peranakan tarts that are loaded with assorted vegetables, the cafe’s rendition features fatty tuna with a smoky aftertaste.
The Tsukune with Parmesan Crust (S$9.80) is a must-try! Coated in savoury Yuzu Chilli Parmesan, the chicken meatball was bursting with flavour and oozing with juiciness. I guiltily ate all three…
You can’t leave A Beautiful Day Café Tea Room without trying their chazuke line that comes with broth as well as wakame and rice puffs as sides. Both the Prawn Chazuke (S$14.90) and Aburi Truffle Beef Chazuke (S$19.90) were absolute stunners.
Their Dashi Broths are high on L-theanine, a compound that encourages relaxation and improves focus. What’s more, these souper-stars are brewed with Jasmine Tea and have nutritious kombu and air-dried bonito as ingredients.
Our chazukes were served on a soft bed of Japanese Rice garnished with furikake flakes. Paired with clean-tasting Tori Paitan Broth, the Prawn Chazuke (S$14.90) consisted of succulent prawns. On the other hand, the Aburi Truffle Beef Chazuke (S$19.90) featured tender beef slices and briny lumpfish caviar.
What took the cake? The latter perfectly complemented A Beautiful Day Café Tea Room’s peppery-sweet Bak Kut Teh Collagen Broth. My dad ate that up with gusto LOL.
A meal without dessert is a no-no. Recommended by a friendly staff member, the decadent plate of ABD Waffles (S$16.90) was graced with Seasonal Fruits, Pink Rice Krispies and Vanilla Ice Cream (of our choice). I particularly enjoyed sprinkling some cereal over a dollop of waffles with ice cream.
Wash your meal down with a cup of CoffTea – a blend of speciality coffee and artisan tea offered as an Americano (S$5.30/S$6.30) or Latte (S$6.30/S$7.30).
If you prefer something refreshing though, their TeaTail range is an effective thirst-quencher. Specifically, the Guava Apple Oolong (S$9.90) which is infused with Dong Ding Oolong, Secrets of Singapore, Apple Puree and more.
Another personal fave is the Wu Yi Da Hong Pao (S$12.90/S$13.90).
It wasn’t as astringent as I thought it would be and dang, look at that magnificent glass bottle! Oh and did you know that A Beautiful Day Café Tea Room is “No GST” too? So, the next time you see me near PLQ, you know where I’m heading.
