New in town: Arc En Ciel — Hidden minimalistic patisserie in Telok Ayer serving Instagram-worthy desserts

I’m a big dessert girl, so when it comes to the opening of new dessert cafes, I am usually the first to notice and try them out. Quickly enough, I found myself at Arc En Ciel Patisserie, a brand new dessert space in a shophouse at Telok Ayer.

Arc En Ciel Patisserie is located at 37A Niel Road. Go up the stairs and you’ll find the beautiful space on the second floor, led by an iconic green door that states “big belly smiles inside” before you enter. We all love a positive environment that supports indulgence.

They are currently in their soft launch which started from 25 Feb 2022, and will be officially open on 10 March 2022.

Inside, you’ll be greeted by a minimalistic set-up with wooden undertones and earthy colours of brown, white and green. Natural light peeks out of the large windows that overlook the Outram Park estate, making the whole place feel very calm. The cafe is on the second floor, so you’ll be at a distance witnessing the hustle and bustle of CBD.

You can see that they have an eye for details— even their chairs have intricate eyelets made by rattan material. This quality of theirs is definitely applied to their desserts as well.

They have a total of 7 gorgeous desserts. Clearly, they’ve included a spread that is a feast for your belly and your eyes.

All of them looked so elegant we had so much difficulty deciding on what to have! In the end, we settled for Elijah and Lola. They take inspiration from the city of love, Paris, which is also renowned for decadent pastries that take high skills to master.

The Elijah (S$11) is a white chocolate and lime mousse dessert that contains bits of yuzu and almond inside.

Does the flavour combination sound familiar to you? They take inspiration from our childhood ice cream, Solero’s lime popsicle. There was a sharp sourness from the lime, which is masked by the sweet mousse from inside.

Next is Lola (S$11), which is a citrus option for those who like lighter cakes. Made from pineapples and guava, this cake contains pistachio nuts as well. Most of their cakes are similar to a dessert dome— you cut into the aesthetic dessert, and a portion of the dessert will include a soft mousse.

The patisserie offers tea pairings with the desserts as well. A few of the thirst quencher options include Lavender Citrus (S$7) and Strawberry Champagne (S$7). What they would recommend to pair with Lola would be the Kimba Tea (S$7)!

With Arc En Ciel around, I’m glad that there are more options in the area for luxurious desserts.
