Career
Food Content Writer
We’ll pay you to eat. Full-time.
SETHLUI.com is looking for a full-time food content writer in Singapore who can find the story in a plate of food, shoot it well and get it in front of a lot of readers. Everything you write goes live on sethlui.com, home of the Top 300 Hawkers guide, under your own byline. You’ll pitch what we cover as much as you’re assigned it.
What You'll Be Doing
The core of the job is curation. Can you tell what’s gaining traction from something that’s already overhyped? Can you find a neighbourhood gem nobody has written about yet, and explain why it matters in under 800 words? That instinct is what we’re hiring for. The rest can be taught, though we’d rather you arrived with most of it.
Day to day, that looks like:
- Pitching F&B story ideas and finding angles that get people reading and sharing
- Writing long-form reviews, listicles and short news pieces
- Turning around breaking food news fast, including on weekends when a story drops
- Attending tastings, launches and ad hoc events
- Writing to SEO best practice, tracking how your articles perform and suggesting what to improve
- Producing both editorial and client articles to a professional standard
- Shooting publication-ready photos and writing headlines and social captions
- Guiding new writers and interns
Who We're Looking For
- 1 to 2 years’ experience as a writer at a publication or in a similar role, with a portfolio of published articles
- A diploma or degree in Literature, Mass Communications or equivalent
- Solid knowledge of local food culture and heritage, plus a feel for what’s trending
- A good photographic eye
- Clean, sharp English, and the habit of checking facts across multiple sources before you file
- A knack for headlines that make people click without lying to them
- Comfort with digital media deadlines, where “tomorrow” often means “in an hour”
New to writing professionally? Our internship is a good way in, and strong interns can work towards a full-time role.
What you get
- A salary of [S$2500 to S$3000], depending on experience
- Your own byline on every piece you publish
- An editor who reviews your work and gives input before it goes live
- A food budget for assigned reviews
- The chance to mentor interns and shape how the next batch writes
What’s the culture like?
We work hard and eat well, often at the same time. We’d rather you find a rhythm that makes room for both work and life than keep the two in separate boxes.
We’re a growing company, so we look for people who want to grow with us. We work together, back each other up and share responsibility for the outcome. No lone wolves.
