Lifestyle Content Writer Internship in Singapore
We’ll pay you to go out. Mostly.
The longer version: SETHLUI.com is looking for lifestyle content writer interns in Singapore who can cover how people here live, play and spend their weekends, and tell readers what’s worth their time and money. Everything you write goes live on sethlui.com under your own byline. You’ll leave with a portfolio of published work, not a folder of practice drafts.
It tends to open doors. You’ll work with a dedicated editor who goes through your drafts and shows you what to fix and why. Most of our past interns have gone on to write for SPH Media, Mediacorp, Mothership and Singapore magazines like Prestige.
What you'll be doing
Lifestyle covers a lot of ground, and you’ll cover most of it. One week it’s a music festival guide, a concert presale or a heritage festival at the Botanic Gardens. The next, you’re working out which aircon servicing company is worth calling, or which massage chair deserves the space in someone’s living room. There’s also attraction guides, pop-ups, new openings across the Causeway and the occasional story that gets the whole office arguing.
The real job is curation. Can you tell a pop-up worth queuing for from one that’s mostly a photo backdrop? Can you write a buying guide that helps someone decide, instead of listing every option on the market? Can you spot the news story everyone in Singapore will be talking about tomorrow?
You’ll write long-form guides and reviews of around 800 words, lifestyle and travel listicles, and short news or event articles of 150 to 300 words. You’ll shoot the photos and write the social captions too. Photos should be publication-ready. Articles should be formatted, fact-checked and clean.
Who we're looking for
Someone who always knows what’s on this weekend and has opinions about it. Beyond that:
- A clear, concise writing style that mass readers can follow, with grammar you don’t need someone else to fix
- A good photographic eye
- A knack for headlines that make people click without lying to them
- Care with details, because ticket prices, event dates and opening hours change often, and readers act on what you write
- Comfort researching and comparing products and services, and explaining the trade-offs plainly
- Openness to feedback from your editor, including the kind that means rewriting your second paragraph
Nobody will chase you through a task list. The interns who do well here take ownership of their work and pitch ideas before anyone asks.
What you get
- A monthly allowance of S$800 to S$1,200, depending on your education stage
- A dedicated editor who reviews your work and guides you as you go
- A budget for assigned reviews and experiences
- Your own byline on every piece you publish
- The option to work from home once you’ve met the required performance criteria
The internship runs for 3 to 6 months, based in our office / hybrid on weekdays.
What’s the culture like?
We work hard and eat well, often at the same time. We’d rather you find a rhythm that makes room for both work and life than keep the two in separate boxes.
We’re a growing company, so we look for people who want to grow with us. We work together, back each other up and share responsibility for the outcome. No lone wolves.
