Civil servants, this is for you. Public Service Week (PSW) 2024 has kicked off with exciting news: starting Oct this year, civil servants who are eligible for FlexiGrow will receive a $500 benefit annually. The scheme is designed to support your health, well-being and personal growth.

At the opening event on 10 Jul, Mr Chan Chun Sing, Minister-in-charge of the Public Service, unveiled the upgrades in benefits available to public officers. Following this year’s PSW theme, “Innovate, Grow, Care – Make a Difference for Tomorrow”, a focus on empowering officers surrounds these enhanced benefits.
Firstly, there’s the $500 yearly “FlexiGrow” allowance, which can be used in a variety of ways to improve officers’ long-term well-being and personal growth. Depending on your needs, you can leverage the allowance for individual developmental purposes like skill upgrading courses or fitness programmes.
Secondly, public officers including re-employed officers and Statutory Board employees can enjoy enhanced medical and dental benefits.
The existing outpatient medical subsidy is a benefit that officers currently enjoy. However, there is a $20 per visit cap for outpatient visits to private clinics and hospitals. Effective 1 Jan 2025, this cap will increase to $50 per visit. Dental subsidies will also increase from $120 per year to $250, for both private and public clinics/hospitals, empowering officers to take charge of their dental health.
These enhancements reflect the public service’s commitment to extending the retirement age to 64 and the re-employment age to 69 for its officers starting July 1, 2025. Aimed at supporting more long-service employees, these improved benefits encourage individuals to prioritize their health and engage in continuous learning by investing in their self-improvement.
So, if you’ve been wanting to pick up a new skill or become an exercise junkie, now’s your chance! See if you can get a discount using the $500 once it’s rolled out.
