Walking through ION Orchard nowadays, I only see long queues at bubble tea stores. Long gone were the days when people stood in line—for what seemed like forever—at Bake Cheese Tart. And sadly, the popular Hokkaido cheese tart brand will be closing down.
But when one door closes, another opens.
They specialise in Zakuzaku, which are Japanese stick cream puffs. Think of it as something like churros, but with a creamy filling.
Their crunchy croquant outer layer is created with baked almonds coated in egg white and sugar, while the custard cream filling is made using high-quality free-range milk from Hokkaido.
Priced at S$2.80 for a piece of Croquant Chou Zakuzaku, you can also pay S$10.50 for a bag of four.
You can also enjoy their Zakuzaku Soft Serve in a cone or cup for S$6, which is made from Hokkaido milk and topped with croquant pieces for that crunch.
If you’re someone like me who can’t decide on what to get, you can always go for the Hiyazaku (S$3.80).
Basically, the Croquant Chou Zakuzaku is served open-face, and filled with Zakuzaku Soft Serve, giving your taste buds a combination of crunchiness and creaminess.
Is November almost here? Well, good things (or food) are worth the wait.
