As Holland Drive Market and Food Centre reopens, folks are stoked to visit their favourite stalls once again. Thus, it is with a saddened heart to announce that Da Chang Jin Handmade Chee Cheong Fun is closed, with this news revealed on 2 May 2023.

Not an unfamiliar name, this stall gained fame for their quirky chee cheong fun options like unagi and smoked salmon. Rather unique for traditional food, if I do say so myself.

Currently, there has been no online announcement about the stall’s closing. However, customers, including another food publication and a Facebook user, have noticed that Da Chang Jin Handmade Chee Cheong Fun’s stall sign has been taken down, showing the obvious closure.

Whether for personal reasons or due to the possible increase in rental cost, the reasoning behind the closure remains unclear. I am sure many are devastated by such news and hope to hear news on this from the stall soon.

Being freshly made-to-order, it is pretty clear why Da Chang Jin Handmade Chee Cheong Fun’s chee cheong fun has high praise. The Unagi Chee Cheong Fun (S$5) was moist and soft, having a heavy impactful flavour from the thick teriyaki sauce. Where else can you get unagi for S$5?

Being an avid lover of the fungi, I was incredibly distraught that I had not tried their Mushroom Chee Cheong Fun (S$3.50). Said to be stuffed with enoki mushrooms, this item gave a satisfying chew with the soft bouncy layers.

With the ability to modernise a traditional classic, the stall had gained quite a repertoire. Plus, many reviews have praised the stall’s affordability and freshness.

So, it would not be all too surprising to hear disappointed chatter that this precious stall is closed. There is no doubt that Holland Drive Food Centre is now missing a part of what makes it memorable. Perhaps, the stall would soon release a statement regarding their closure soon.
