Feeling the pinch in your wallet with the festive season around the corner? West-siders are in luck, Clementi folks especially. Double K Western Food is offering an ongoing promotion on their second main at, get this, just S$1.
The stall is located at Bistro 8@Clementi, a coffeeshop that opened in Dec of last year. It is easily accessible from Clementi station, a right turn away from Clementi 448 Market & Food Centre.
The Clementi branch appears to be the 3rd outlet, as their Google My Business listings indicate 1 each at at Marsiling and Woodlands.
As a self-proclaimed big eater, I did not hesitate with a double order of Fish “N” Chips w Tartar sauce (S$8) and Hikory BBQ Sauce w Chicken Chop (S$8.20). While there are no strings attached, the cashier will apply the $1 promotion on the less expensive dish. Fair enough.
Portion sizes look to be average as things go. I did wish the hickory barbecue sauce was more distinct and for the chicken chop to have been on the grill a tad longer. Still, the meat was juicy and nicely seasoned.
The Fish & Chips at Double K comes with a nicely battered slab, not too thick while offering a good savoury crunch.
The fish itself was thick and flaky, and I would say the better of the 2 mains.
Again, the tartar sauce didn’t contribute too much either. Squeezes of lemon were needed to bring out a more tangy element from the condiment. Nothing too outstanding about the fries, coleslaw and bun either.
While the $1 deal is ongoing, you won’t get better value for money for Western fare. It’s too bad the staff weren’t made aware of how long the promotional period will be, so best head down soon if you want a stupendously good deal.
