New in town: East Coast Commune, Marine Cove — The East Coast Plan and coffee we need

It’s easy to say I’m above the trends, burnt basque cheesecake: overdone, bubble tea everything: come on, and salted egg on anything: blasphemous. But then, a new cafe like the East Coast Commune appears on the scene with vibes and an aesthetic that taps into all my millennial sensibilities. Needless to say, I have to go there and take a million pictures with an Instagram filter because #aesthetic.

This spacious cafe is squared off in the Marine Cove enclave that’s a calm oasis amidst the noise. The East Coast Commune checks all the boxes, designed with the surroundings in mind, the space is decked out in calming teal hues, countless house plants (#plantmom) and burnt orange seats.

Not only that, a cafe that supports local artists is always a win. You’ll spot artwork by local artists, like this triptych by Wu Yanrong. Of course, the food is just as important in an establishment like this. East Coast Commune has a selection of speciality coffee, cold-pressed juices, hearty sandwiches and fresh bakes just to start you off.

I, for one, have to get my hands on their Sour Dough Waffles and for mornings after a good workout, the Big Breakfast (S$14) that comes replete with sausage, sautéed mushrooms, greens, and fried eggs before being drizzled with maple syrup would do the trick.

Or if it’s a quiet afternoon with a good book, the Berries & Mint (S$12) never fails to sweeten up the day you’re having. Alternatively, the simple yet satisfying Classic (S$8) that comes with maple butter and maple syrup never fails to hit the spot.

I’m only feeling a little conflicted at revealing this spot because despite the 100-seater, somehow it’s impossible to find a seat during the weekend. However, if you find some time during the weekday, East Coast Commune does take reservations 24-hours in advance and all you have to do is text the number here.

Well, now that you know all that’s left to do try to make it early on the weekend for brunch. If not, you can also give the insanely crowded P.S Cafe East Coast Park a shot.
