Freshly soft-launched in Aug, Elmina Lakeside Mall is the vibrant centrepiece of Elmina City Centre, nestled in the stunning natural greenery of Shah Alam. This open-layout mall keeps everything on the ground floor, with just a few stairs leading up to the 2nd level of select stores. Most shops are charmingly spaced apart, resembling cute minimalist containers.

Elmina Lakeside Mall - Overview

Featuring nearly 100 brands, this outdoor neighbourhood mall offers a delightful mix of dining options, supermarkets, and trendy local fashion stores. Just a short stroll away, the newly completed Elmina Urban Park enhances the mall’s charm with its tiger-themed playground, picturesque views of cascading waterways, and a dragon bridge lookout point.

Elmina Lakeside Mall - Stores

After attracting 180,000 visitors on its opening weekend, Elmina Lakeside Mall is still expanding. Planning to visit but not sure where to start? You’re in luck! Here’s my list of 11 must-do activities at Elmina Lakeside Mall for the ultimate experience.

1. Shop till you drop at Bayu Somerset

Bayu Somerset - Storefront

Even though Hari Raya Aidilfitri might be a while away, the charm of the baju kurung never goes out of style. Besides, let’s be real — there’s always room for more fabulous outfits in your closet, right? At Bayu Somerset, you’ll find everything from traditional Malay wear to breezy blouses in vibrant, tropical hues, blending vintage elegance with modern flair.

If you’re all about standing out with bold colours and eye-catching floral motifs that give off major tropical paradise vibes, then their latest Tropical Collection is calling your name.

With prices starting from just RM99, you can grab gorgeous pieces like the Alohi Kurung in Green or Pink, the Cali Kebaya, and the Lilo Kurung in Pink.

Bayu Somerset - Accessories

Bayu Somerset doesn’t stop at clothes — they’ve got accessories too! Think cute square scarves, playful scrunchies (with or without ribbons), and bucket hats, all decked out in their signature bold designs.

Bayu Somerset - Fabrics

Feeling extra creative? You can even design your own look from their selection of fabrics, starting at just RM25 per metre. And don’t miss their awesome Buy 1 Free 1 promo from 7 to 13 Oct!

2. Feast on special Chinese Muslim cuisine

Mee Hiris China Muslim - Storefront

Amidst the diverse dining options in the mall, including plenty of Muslim-friendly choices, Mee Hiris China Muslim stands out as the only eatery certified Halal by JAKIM. While I personally enjoy a variety of places, I know some prefer the peace of mind that comes with JAKIM certification. So, if you’re in the mood for a great meal, Mee Hiris China Muslim has an extensive menu that won’t disappoint!

Mee Hiris China Muslim - Shrimp & mutton

In my opinion, food tastes even better when shared with friends! Start with their crispy, succulent Pineapple Shrimp (RM38.90), which is generously tossed with vibrant bell peppers and sweet pineapple. Don’t miss out on their signature Xin Jiang Toothpick Mutton (RM55.40) — tender mutton marinated in delicious Chinese spices that will leave you craving more. Pair these with some rice for a satisfying meal!

If you prefer to go solo, their mee tarik is a must-try. You can choose between mee hiris (flat noodles) or mee tarik (thin noodles), both cooked in piping hot broths like Chicken Curry or Braised Beef. Whether sharing or savouring on your own, your taste buds are in for a treat!

Art & Bonding - Kids' area

And hey, parents, I’ve got something just for you! If you’re craving some “me-time” but not sure what to do with the kiddos, you’re in luck. 4. ¡Órale! Dive into the vibrant food scene of Mexico

Chica Bonita - Storefront

Whether you’re already in love with Mexican culture or experiencing it for the first time, stepping into Chica Bonita will leave you in awe. Inspired by the vibrant energy of authentic Mexican celebrations like Día de los Muertos (Happy Death Day) and Cinco de Mayo, this place nails the atmosphere.

The interior is a feast for the eyes, with colourful traditional Mexican motifs like moons, indigenous symbols, and animals. The array of intricately painted skulls is especially striking, offering a unique twist on the usual sombre portrayal of death, and beautifully reflecting Mexico’s rich, timeless culture.

And of course, the star of the show — the mouthwatering food! Chica Bonita’s menu is packed with bold, flavourful options. Their Burritos Chingones (from RM23) are a must-try, featuring a hefty 12-inch flour tortilla stuffed with your choice of filling (Chicken, Beef, Shrimp, Mushroom, or Pumpkin), along with cheese, rice, frijoles, lettuce, and salsa roja.

Other tempting dishes include the Enchiladas ta Loca (from RM30), which comes with 3 corn tortillas loaded with salsa, cheese, and pico de gallo. And don’t miss out on the Fajitas (from RM46) — a sizzling mix of onions, bell peppers, and your preferred filling, served with sides of guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese, pickled jalapeños, and flour tortillas for dipping!

5. Fill your pantry with fresh groceries from Jaya Grocer

Jaya Grocer - Storefront

As someone who loves grocery shopping, I totally get the excitement of walking into a well-stocked marketplace — vibrant veggies, fresh meats, and little indulgences like cheeses, snacks, or a warm loaf of bread. In my opinion, Jaya Grocer is one local supermarket that never disappoints in delivering that experience.

So imagine my excitement when I found out that Jaya Grocer is now open at Elmina Lakeside Mall! Living in Elmina City just got a whole lot more convenient. Of course, they’ve got your usual fresh produce and meats, but what really sets Jaya Grocer apart is their selection of unique, hard-to-find items.

You’ll discover gems like Coles, the Australian brand, offering treats such as Biscuits Scotch Fingers (RM7.90), Pure Australian Honey (RM29.90 for 500g), and Gluten-Free Wheat and Nut Chocolate Chip Cookies (RM13.90 for 160g).

And I can’t leave without grabbing some freshly baked bread from Baker’s Son. I’m a fan of their English Muffins (RM5.50 for 3 pieces) and Ciabatta (RM5.90). Trust me, whether it’s an everyday essential or something special, Jaya Grocer has it all!

7. Transform your babies into Bubble Guppies (or become one yourself!)

Happy Fish - Storefront

As someone who loves booking hotel rooms just to enjoy a swim, I can say that having a pool in a mall is like a dream come true! If you’re like me and want easy access to a great swim spot, then Happy Fish has got you covered.

Happy Fish - Facilities

Their indoor pool is top-notch, using a premium salt chlorinator system alongside cutting-edge UV and ioniser technologies. Fun fact: the UV system works similarly to the non-chemical method New York City uses to purify its drinking water — impressive, right? This means the pool stays ultra-clean, safe, and way easier to maintain.

Even better, the pool is kept at a cosy 30-32°C during lessons, so you can enjoy warm, crystal-clear water without worrying about chilly shivers, stinging eyes, or dry hair and skin!

Happy Fish is a hit with parents, offering swimming lessons for babies as young as 4 months to kids up to 12 years old. But don’t worry, adults are welcome too. Their experienced swimming coaches make sure your little ones are safe, so you can relax and enjoy a dip. No more excuses — it’s time to dive in!

8. Eat roti canai — with a twist!

Rollti - Storefront

As Malaysians, who can resist the classic national breakfast of roti canai? At Rollti, you might just find a new favourite twist on this beloved dish — roti canai served as a wrap! Picture this: fluffy, flaky roti canai stuffed to the brim with delicious fillings. As someone who isn’t a huge fan of flour tortillas, I’m all in for these Rolltis!

Rollti boasts a fantastic variety of fillings, including chicken, beef, lamb, seafood, and even vegetarian options. If you’re a chicken aficionado, you won’t want to miss the Chicken Chill La Grill La (RM12) and the spicy Chicken Sambal Meletop (RM13) — both are must-tries!

For beef lovers, they offer similar delights with beef instead of chicken. And for seafood fans, the Sardin Mayo Membara is a steal at just RM14. Veggie enthusiasts can enjoy scrumptious choices like the Telur Mushroom BadaBoom (RM13) and the Meat Free Wonder (RM14), featuring tasty plant-based meat.

Whether you’re a traditionalist or an adventurous eater, Rollti has something to satisfy every palate!

Arieni's Roti Jala x Gula Petite - Storefront

If you’re looking for a cosy spot to hang out with friends, this mall is overflowing with options! One standout is Arieni’s Roti Jala x Gula Petite, a delightful blend of sweet pastries and traditional Malay cuisine.

Arieni's Roti Jala x Gula Petite - Dining area

As soon as you step inside, you’ll be charmed by the stunning decor. With its soothing beige and white tones, adorned with pastel flowers, it feels like a dreamy flower shop from Pasar Seni — but even better, because you get to enjoy delicious food!

10. Pet a gigantic tiger & follow its trail at the playground

Elmina Central Park - Playground

You read that right! Nestled just a short 3-minute stroll from Elmina Lakeside Mall is an amazing tiger-themed playground featuring a massive statue of Malaysia’s national animal. But here’s the twist: this isn’t just any statue; you can actually explore the inside of this fun, oversized tiger!

Elmina Central Park - Playground

This playful creation serves as a fantastic play area for kids, complete with climbing nets and peek-a-boo holes. How cool is that? It’s like a whimsical jungle gym. The entire playground is tiger-themed, with a fun trail winding through it that encourages kids to embark on an adventurous exploration rather than just sticking to the usual swings and slides.

Elmina Central Park - Field

And if that’s not enough, there’s a colourful board showcasing fascinating tiger facts, complete with adorable illustrations for the little ones to enjoy. Plus, right across from the playground, there’s a spacious field perfect for sports, where locals and visitors can join in on the fun. It’s a wild day out for the whole family!

11. Go on a (boat, bicycle, or even train) ride

Amidst all the fun at the Upper Lake by Elmina Lakeside Mall, the mini rides from Swift Bikes and Swift Boats are a definite crowd favourite! What’s even more exciting is the wide variety of rides they offer.

For the little ones, hop aboard the Choo-Choo Train for just RM10 per trip. If your kids don’t like to share, the Swift Jumbo (RM35 for 10 minutes) is a great choice, as it’s designed for 1 parent and 1 child per car — complete with adorable designs like the beloved Kuromi!

If you’re looking to splash around, the Swift Hydro (RM35 for 10 minutes) is your ticket to fun. Unlike many other rides, it’s fully motor-powered, so you can glide across the lake without breaking a sweat.

Swift Bikes - Bikes & scooters

Their bike offerings are just as varied, choose from the cute Swift Gliders for a leisurely ride or rev up your adventure with the fully motor-powered Swift Racers if you’re craving some speed. Whether you’re floating on water or zipping around on land, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!
