Beer Ramen 1Remember the beer ramen that’s been trending all over Facebook? It’s here in Singapore! Japanese restaurant, En Sushi, came out with their ice-cold Beer” Ramen Set (S$22.90) that’s suitable for all ages despite its name.

The “beer” ramen doesn’t actually involve any beer or alcohol. Even though it looks like beer, this interesting dish is made with ramen noodles dipped into an iced umami broth and topped with egg white foam.

Besides the ramen, the set also includes a side of crispy tori karaage, kaisen tofu and tasty kakiage tempura.

The concept of the beer ramen is similar to soba noodles where you dip your noodles in a dipping sauce. The kakiage tempura can also be dipped in the house broth for extra flavour.

The ramen noodles were served cold and because of that, we can’t tell if the noodles were actually springy. The broth wasn’t too savoury, so you can actually “chug” your beer ramen.

The side dishes made the meal more substantial, the karaage was crispy and fragrant on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. The kaisen tofu was a mix of seafood and vegetables that were great to have between bites.

We also ordered a pint of Sapporo beer on the side and challenged ourselves to live up to the beer ramen title. We dipped a little bit of ramen in the actual beer, and our verdict is: don’t. What were we thinking!

The “Beer” Ramen is very suitable for Singapore’s weather, so if you wanna get in on the hype, head over to En Sushi to give it a try.
