Dessert lovers in Johor have something sweet to look forward to. Popular Klang Valley dessert brand Gula Cakery is officially making its way down south, with its first Johor outlet set to open at Toppen Shopping Centre soon.

If the name sounds familiar, it’s probably because Gula Cakery has built quite the following over the years for its eye-catching desserts and indulgent cake slices.

Behind it all is founder Arieni Adriena, who first started baking from home. What began as a small passion project slowly gathered momentum, fueled by a love for cakes and nostalgic memories of time spent in the kitchen growing up.

Over time, that humble home bakery blossomed into a recognisable dessert name across the Klang Valley, later expanding to other cities as well.

Naturally, the cakes remain the stars of the show. One of the most talked-about slices is the Matilda Cake, known for its deep chocolate flavour, dense texture and unapologetically rich finish.

If you prefer something a little lighter or fruitier, there are options like the Raspberry Pistachio Cake, fragrant Pandan Gula Melaka Cake, or the creamy Speculoos Cheesecake layered with that distinctive caramelised biscuit flavour.

But Gula Cakery isn’t just about desserts. The cafe also offers a wide selection of savoury dishes that make it an easy pick for full meals.

Expect comforting plates like Grilled Chicken Chop, Chicken Parmigiana, and crispy Fish & Chips, alongside pasta favourites such as Spaghetti Spicy Buttermilk Chicken, Creamy Carbonara, and Daging Dendeng Pasta.

Diners can also opt for Malaysian-inspired dishes like Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Daging Dendeng, and Gula’s Signature Nasi Goreng, offering a familiar touch to the otherwise Western-leaning cafe menu.

Early visitors can even swing by for brunch, with breakfast plates such as croissants, Eggs Benedict, French toast and big breakfast platters available on the menu.

With Gula Cakery soon opening its first Johor outlet, locals will finally get the chance to enjoy those famed slices and food — no road trip required. The official date for the Toppen Shopping Centre branch is expected to be announced soon, so keep your eyes peeled!
