After just over 2 months of operations at Sims Vista Market & Food Centre, Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice closed for good on 24 May 2025. The reason for their closure was not specified, simply stating they’ve ceased operations “till further notice”.
We can’t talk about chicken rice in Singapore without mentioning the legendary Sin Kee Chicken Rice, first founded at Margaret Drive in 1971 by Mr Leong Fook Wing. Today, there are 6 stalls islandwide that share the ‘Sin Kee’ name, and while not all are directly connected, some trace their roots back to the OG.
One such stall is the aforementioned Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice, run by one of the late founder’s sons, Niven. Before rebranding to its current name, this stall had undergone many variations, from Uncle Chicken Rice, Sin Kee Famous Chicken (featured in the Singapore episode of Netflix’s Street Food: Asia!), to Sin Kee Chicken Rice (Margaret Drive).
Heritage Sin Kee Chicken Rice’s closure was made known by the posters Niven plastered across his stall front — one placed directly on his face on the signage. He uploaded it to Facebook with a sardonic caption, “My face so 乞人憎 (qi ren zeng). Must sealed up”, a phrase that loosely translates to “so annoying, people can’t stand the sight of it.”
A separate Facebook post by a netizen on 10 Jun garnered mixed reactions in the comments. While some loyal customers were disappointed by this sudden news, others were noting Niven’s pattern of relatively short stints at various locations.
