We Live in Time is a romantic comedy-drama that tells the tale of recent divorcée Tobias Durand (Andrew Garfield) and figure skater-turned-chef Almut Brühl (Florence Pugh). The film spans an entire decade: from their first meeting to falling in love, to becoming a family of three.

Pugh, from another A24 hit Midsommar (2019), tackles a more grounded role as an up-and-coming chef and mother. Pugh’s character juggles her career, family life and a surprise cancer diagnosis with sheer grace.

Putting her alongside heart-throb Garfield, the chemistry is electric. Garfield, having made his mainstream comeback after the release of Spider-man: No Way Home (2022), retains his signature charm. Pugh and Garfield’s chemistry, both on and off screen, simply cuts right to the soul.

The A24 film has been doing well in its North American theatrical run. With an initial release of only 5 screens, the film grossed USD225,900. To date, the film has managed to garner a domestic box office of USD11.7 million. The film is quickly gearing up to be one of A24’s most successful theatrical releases ever.

2. Red One (2024)

Red One is a Christmas action comedy. When Santa Claus (J. K. Simmons), known simply as Nick, gets kidnapped, North Pole head of security Callum Drift (Dwayne Johnson) and tracker Jack O’Malley (Chris Evans) must team up to save him.

Starring alongside Johnson and Evans is early 2000s action darling Lucy Liu, famous for the Charlie’s Angels franchise. She plays Zoe Harlow, the head of the Mythological Oversight and Restoration Authority, or MORA. They monitor the movements of every creature in folklore from the Easter Bunny to Bigfoot.

The film will include 2 folkloric Christmas villains Krampus (Kristofer Hivju) and Gryla (Kiernan Shipka). They are notorious figures in European legend who terrorise children during the festive season.

Red One was produced by Amazon and Metro-Goldwyn Meyer (MGM) with a budget of USD253 million. It is a figure common amongst such blockbusters. This could only mean that box office success will be determined by a financial haul across their domestic and international releases.

With the holiday season coming up, Red One will be a good time for the whole family to enjoy in theatres.

3. Wicked (2024)

Wicked is a film adaptation of the Broadway musical of the same name — which was an adaptation of a novel. It follows the unlikely friendship between Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), a young woman with green skin, and Galinda (Ariana Grande), a popular rich girl, as they begin their tumultuous journey towards their inevitable roles in the story of “The Wizard of Oz”.

Jonathan Bailey, of Bridgerton fame, will star alongside Erivo and Grande as Fiyero, a Winkie prince. Other notable names are Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum and Keala Settle.

This film is the first of a two-parter. The second part is to be released in 2025. Speaking to Just Jared Jr., composer Stephen Schwartz said that they had too many plot elements from the story that they wanted to include. They knew fans would be disappointed to have some of those pivotal scenes left on the cutting room floor.

The break between the films is similar to that of the musical, between Act One and Act Two. Therefore, the show-stopping first film will end with the climactic song Defying Gravity.

Gladiator 2 is the sequel to Gladiator (2000). Lucius Veras (Paul Mescal), son of Lucilla and Maximus from the first film, is forced into slavery after the death of his wife at the hands of brutal Emperors Caracalla (Fred Hechinger) and Geta (Joseph Quinn). Vengeful and determined to return Rome to its former glory, Lucius follows in his father’s footsteps and enters the Colosseum.

This cast is packed with talent. Denzel Washington plays former slave Marcius who trains Lucius to take down the new emperors. Pedro Pascal is also in the film. He plays Roman General Marcus Acacius who is forced to be a gladiator after refusing to send any more men to fight for the emperors.

Director Ridley Scott returns to direct the sequel.

Early buzz from pressers and the film’s Los Angeles premiere have been largely positive. Many are raving about the performances, particularly Washington. Some have even predicted a potential Oscars nomination.

Moana 2 is set 3 years after the original, Moana (2016). It continues the journey of Moana (Auli’i Cravalho), Maui (Dwayne Johnson) and a new group of ragtag crew through the big blue sea. They will be tackling new creatures and villains, with some familiar foes returning for a rematch.

This film will introduce another goddess, Matangi (Awihimai Fraser). This goddess promises to be a formidable force to Moana, Maui and the gang. Speaking to ComicBook, Director Dana Ledoux Miller, 1 of a trio of directors for the film, states that she is a “mysterious” character and “more complicated than she seems”.

The sequel to the 2016 hit was announced this past February. Many hadn’t been expecting it due to the hype they were building for a live-action Moana. Audiences are excited nonetheless, with many still nostalgic over the first film. The live-action is set to be released on 10 Jul 2026.

Outer Banks Season 4: Part 2 continues the story of John B (Chase Stokes) and the gang as they head off to Morocco. This season, the Pogues are sucked right back into the “G” game. With new antagonists approaching, they begin to question whether they are willing to risk it all. Season 4 brought about a slew of new characters. J. Anthony Crane as widower Chandler Groff, Pollyanna McIntosh as Dalia, Brianna Brown as Hollis Robinson, Rigo Sanchez as Lightner and Mia Challis as Ruthie.

Due to the Hollywood Actors’ and Writers’ Strike in 2023, many television shows have experienced filming delays. The consensus among these major releases was to split these seasons into a few parts. Outer Banks met the same fate. Among other affected projects are Bridgerton and Emily in Paris.

The trailer for this part has been released and fan speculations have been circulating social media. From it, some have speculated big changes for the core couple John B. and Sarah (Madeline Cline). Whether these predictions are true, remains to be seen.
