Xmas 24

Take your pick from a trio of mini buffet sets which are ideal for a party of 10: Jingle Bell Wonders iHEAT (S$298+), Season’s Wonders iHEAT (S$398+) and Joyful Wonders iHEAT (S$498+). Given that Christmas only comes once a year, I decided to go all out and embrace the Joyful Wonders iHeat experience.

And yes, I do have that one special person in my troop who has never been punctual in his life. Thankfully, with How’s Catering’s self-heating technology, iHEAT, I can toss the worry of ‘What if the food gets cold?’ right out the window.

Heating process

The process is pretty straightforward, too! Simply pour water on the heating agent within the heating tray. Then, place the food container over it and close the lid lightly. Within 15 minutes, the food was warm and ready to be devoured!

How’s Catering even provides you with a fuss-free 5-step self-heating instruction card— how thoughtful!

What I tried at How’s Catering

The Joyful Wonders iHeat was perfect for my intimate gathering of 10. With its 12-course ensemble, it left no stone unturned with a salad, mains and an assortment of desserts.

How's catering xmas 24 - creamy garlic salmon

I’ve always preferred salmon sashimi over its cooked counterpart. Why? Because the latter tends to be dry and overcooked. But the Creamy Garlic Butter Tuscan Salmon with Sundried Tomatoes & Spinach might have just converted me.

The flesh was not only moist but also flaked apart like melted butter. The creamy butter sauce that glazed it was liquid gold— rich, garlicky and seasoned perfectly.

The light sprinkling of breadcrumbs gave it some texture while the inclusion of soft spinach was just pure genius. The tangy punch of sundried tomatoes also helped to tone down the heaviness— what a solid start!

Next, we savoured the Angus Beef Cheek Daube with Winter Vegetables & Mushrooms. It was a slow-cooked stew filled with beef cheek cubes, button mushrooms, and a medley of winter vegetables consisting of celeriac, baby potatoes, carrots, mini radishes and zucchini.

Having worked extensively with beef cheek in my previous role (I used to be a chef), after my first mouthful, I knew the chefs at How’s Catering were masters of their craft. Each succulent morsel was tender, flavourful and blended flawlessly with the robust gravy.

I also enjoyed the earthy button mushrooms and not to mention, the vegetables were cooked to ideal doneness.

Die-hard seafood fans can get a taste of the ocean with the Seafood Bouillabaisse. It consisted of pieces of squid, fish, green mussels and prawns. They were all bathed in a full-bodied, umami-rich gravy that carried delicate notes of dill and fennel.

For an enticing smoky affair, the Slow-baked Spanish Chicken with Bravas Sauce doesn’t disappoint.

The chunky pieces of chicken are delightfully soft and the irresistible woodsy hints of paprika present in the tomato sauce was a match made in heaven.

Having a Christmas feast without dessert is like a day without sunshine. The Magical Elves’ Log is decked out in a vibrant apple-green shade with light-as-air Bavarian cream on top— one not to be missed!

Sink your knife into the nutty pistachio log cake that’s filled with layers of pistachio feuilletine crunch and a floral, bright lemon cranberry rose compote.
